Great stay had, pot of tea before Scafell and stayed a few nights. Not a solid sleep though due to noise from staff sleeping near by.

The Hotel is perfectly situated for a weekend of hikes. The Hotel staff, General Manager, and owners were so accommodating and hospitable after my friends (broke her ankle) and I called mountain rescue. They looked after us and kept us warm (there were plenty of fireplaces). The hotel itself has a lovely homely vibe and a hot chocolate or beer is perfect after a walk here. I will be stopping by again in the future. Special mention to the walking club who kept us company and our spirits high while waiting for Rescue.

Considering how inaccessible this great little spot is, they seemed sufficiently staffed for an off season visit. Reasonable selection of food and drink. I opted for the burger (I was hiking across Lake District for 4 days and needed the carbs ?) which was great. Perfectly cooked as were the chips.

Great to spend a night in this historic hotel with lots of original features. The staff were lovely but the fish and chips were a bit ordinary. In the morning there was a power outage and disappointed there wasn't a gas ring to boil water for a cup of tea.

It seems to take forever to get here along bumpy, twisty roads by the side of the Water. But well worth the journey which adds to the feeling of remoteness! However, a friendly welcome and roaring log burner were welcome on a bright, crisp late-November day. There's a nice vibe at the Inn, a feeling of there having been many travellers resting here in such a relaxing place.I wish I'd booked a room to stay here as I could very easily have had a pint or three to pass the afternoon and then onto a comfortable and blissful evening.Next time for sure but will arrange the visit for late Spring/ Summer ?

What better than a great pub like this after a challenging walk. Really welcoming pub with good pub food and friendly staff. Also perfect for a few drinks the night before a hike swapping adventure stories with friends!Didn?t stay the night but a friend did and said the room was lovely.
