We decided to have a drink in the local pub ? and very glad we did. Lovely people, fantastic service and dinner was delicious. The Inn made our stay in Melmerby. Thanks for such a great evening.

This is our local pub, it is now under new management who are both very friendly and welcoming, all the staff are lovely and will do anything for you, we have now tried there sunday roast it is beautiful there beef short rib is amazing, good portion, we had a ham hock terrine to start the nicest i have ever eaten so tasty cannot wait for it again, have yet to try the main menu but if the food is anything to go by after the sunday roast i cannot wait to try.

We visited Melmerby for a few days at the end of July/early August and we had Sunday lunch at The Shepherds Inn. Even although Rasmus and his team have only recently taken over the pub we were blown away by their warm welcome, great wine list and most importantly, the excellent food!
There were 7 of us in our party, and we were celebrating my birthday which Rasmus and his wife made even more special by singing Happy Birthday to me in both Danish and Mexican!
The food was absolutely delicious, for starters the spicy garlic king prawns were out of this world with a real kick!
Within our group we had the lemon & thyme roast chicken, rolled breast of lamb and the braised beef short rib and everyone raved about their meals - I think some would have licked their plates if they hadn?t been in public.
Thank you all so much for making our celebration meal so special in every way and I wish we lived closer as we?d be visiting lots. Good luck in your new venture. Cx

Best Sunday dinner!!! Wow!!! What a fabulous little gem of a place - if you?re considering going, don?t think a moment longer, just go!!! The owner of this place really knows what he?s doing - cracking village pub that is delivering an exceptional standard of food at a very reasonable price.
This was place DESERVES the recognition and the custom. We were so pleasantly surprised how brilliant this place was, of course you do have to make a little tiny bit of allowance for the fact that they?ve only just started serving food, their staff are still training and you maybe need to be a bit patient and understanding but if you have ever worked in hospitality then you understand.
Please go and support, they really deserve it and know their stuff - you won?t be disappointed! (Oh and I am not related to or have any connection with the place in any way - we?re here visiting on a holiday but they were just fabulous!)

We have been for a drink mind walk before but had dinner for the first time last week. Absolutely wonderful! A mixed group of eaters - voracious omnivore, a vegetarian and an intermittently picky 9 year old. All of us declared the food fantastic. Lovely compact menu with great variety. Our only issue we were too full to give the pudding menu a spin. The staff where very attentive and friendly to all of us - including the two dogs we had with us.
We will be back!

This pub is under new management and just started serving food again after a kitchen refurbishment.
Been there for drinks quite a few times now and seen some great live music ! and we are there last night for food .. delicious food, pretty busy, great atmosphere, very friendly staff!
Total transformation of atmosphere!

Called in for a drink while walking the dog, the new Landlord is very knowledgeable on the range of real ales available, which are superb. The Pub itself is spotless and has a really great atmosphere. Would highly recommend and will be back.

Family meal on Easter Sunday. Very friendly staff and attentive. Lovely setting and very dog friendly. Food is top quality and personal choice - go for the steak and ale pie ?.
