Such a surprise to find such a gemstone close, so close, to Lake Coniston. And what an amazing place. No wonder Arthur Ransome of Swallows and Amazons fame, stayed here. What history there is to take on - the Batty family and their farm development over the years gone by and to come. The welcome, the food, the coffee (the best around!) and hospitality is so different and yet so memorably of a high standard. We shall take back happy memories to New Zealand.

We got there about 10:30 and just missed out on breakfast so had a walk around and down to the shore line while we waited for the cafe to reopen at 11. We returned for tea and scones instead. Sitting outside in the beautiful garden but the sunny spring meant early wasp season so we retreated indoors. Fab scones and lovely tea. Decided to park there for the day and pay to launch our sailing canoe so we could return later that afternoon for a late lunch.
Tried the local artic char caught in Coniston. Partner had lamb. Amazing meal that you find hard to beat at any of the fancy hotels or fine dining restaurants in the lakes.
Only losing a star off perfection down to blasted wasps or we could have sat in the sun to eat.
I know not the restaurants fault but at least it gives me an excuse to go back for that extra star!!
It one of those places you don?t want to tell anyone about in case it gets so busy you can?t get in but they deserve all the praise.

Stunning setting and food/service to match.Had scones and tea for two first visit which was the best we have ever had....the jam was unbelievable. We bought some to bring home as they sell it along with other great locally made gifts .
Second visit was for breakfast. The food is top quality and the service again I can't fault. Probably the best breakfast I've ever eaten in such an idyllic setting. Would definitely recommend visiting this gem!

Really nice family run eatery. Very expensive for what it is even if all food is local. Do not trust the menu online as it is on a chalk board at the entrance.
The food however is very nice and a lovely view.

What a place. They are so lovely. Avoid if on a Diet. Scones were perfect. So accommodating considering we rocked up 20 minutes before closing. Proper pot of tea too.

Had a really special lunch here - lots of space for the children to enjoy the scenery and games provided in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. We had a delicious steak ciabatta sandwich with beautiful salads, and kids had a platter board which they loved. Quite pricey but the food we had was worth it. Friendly and welcoming service.

We walked over from Coniston boating centre. It was a lovely 30 minute walk. The food here was lovely and cooked fresh. Lots of homemade desserts available. The scone was incredible!
Would definitely recommend a visit to this small local restaurant.

Beautiful Place, best view from a cafe I've ever seen!
Super friendly, quick service, lovely little shop, wonderful peaceful atmosphere and it actually had a changing table for our baby which is so unusual in period properties!

Fabulous food and very pleasant surroundings. Great view of the lake from our table. Nothing was too much trouble but the driveway might put a few people off, more of a farm track.

I went with my 8 and 10 year old. The food and presentation was lovely. A lot of the produce and edible flowers is from their organic garden. For folk interested in the author Arthur Ransome - this place is a must. We had a magical time, and as American tourists we were extremely well taken care of.
