A wonderful pub! Staff are so lovely even when rushed off their feet! Food was wonderful, the chips so crispy! We?re staying in chapel stile so have always been twice for dinner and are planning to go back! Very large portions!

Went with two friends, they got ID'd, I didn't.
Bartender Jack basically called me ancient and wouldn't let it go. Still, drinks were 10/10 and the food was incredible. Would definitely go back (after I recover emotionally).

Went in for a coke after walking to loughrigg tarn.
Nice place food is good but did not eat today. Call in you will love wainwrights inn.

Great fish n chips. Small portion is also great value. Amazing views if sitting outside. Sun blind not the best at giving shade.

Stunning little place to stop by as you walk through the lovely little village. Stopped here around dinner time with 8 of us, sat outside as it wasn't too busy. Dog friendly and the food was amazing! Thank you ?

Great pub, excellent food. Your it was an hour wait beggary it's was so busy and we were a group of 10, it arrived within 15 minutes. Very impressed. Great selection of beers.

Went Friday and Saturday evening. Meant to stop serving food at 9.00pm Just halted service at 8.15 both nights. Very annoying as we were staying at Bays Brown Campsite and didn't buy food as we had planned to eat out

Was looking forward to a nice cool drink after a walk, first time in this area of the lakes after recommendations. Sadly disappointed. Due to the dire state of our country, I have to budget my money very carefully and chose wisely where I spend it. I withdraw all my cash when I go away so I do not overspend. Unfortunately I had to leave without having a drink because I was not able to use cash and was unable to use card as my allocated money was already with me as cash. And do not appreciate being forced into spending habits not of my choosing. Staff were asked and said, since convid they stopped taking cash and haven't gone back. Maybe Wainwrights should rethink their support of the tyrannical banking system. Glad to see reviews of similar from others. Shame because it looks like a nice pub but at least I was able to get food and drink in Elterwater.
Zero for food because I couldn't buy anything, one for service because the only service was finding out I couldn't spend my money there.

Atmosphere was OK but wouldn't take my cash!... CARD ONLY!...isn't cash legal tender anymore??!!.. Staff didn't care I only had cash and I had to rely on my partner paying for the drinks with her card... Didn't eat because of this and only had a quick drink... Over filled inside, with to many tables making it hard to move... Had a drink outside which was OK but overall disappointed with what was a great british pub... Went to the britannia down the road where every aspect was better including taking my hard earned cash!... Cash is king and without it we will live in tyrannical dystopian future.

Lovely little pub for food and a drink after a long day. Staff were generally lovely. Only gripe is my wife was at the bar and several people pushed in front of her and the barman kept serving them instead of her who'd been there longer
