Never have anything you need. Shelves always bare. Better stocked shelves in North Korea.

Lovely big shop with Argos in the same shop .

I've been a Sainsbury's shopper for decades and moved to Carlisle about six months ago and Sainsbury's was the obvious place to continue to shop.
This store is not like other branches I've been used to. It's dingy, untidy, looks dirty and doesn't seem to carry the range of products I would expect to find in a store of this size and it seems to promote junk food rather than fresh product, the fruit and vegetables in particular often look like what's left at the end of a day rather than good quality.
Smart shop is available but the Smart shop check outs are never staffed, staff members tell me that they are insufficiently staffed to run them which is simply not good enough. I would put that down to poor management and have tried to address it directly but the manager is never available to speak with a customer, clearly they have more important things to do than speak to the person whose shopping pays their salary. I would also say that the other problems with the store are down to poor management and a poorly led team. Maybe it's time for a clear out at the top because while I would usually score Sainsbury's 5/5, this store would score a firm 0/5 in my experience of the wider brand.
Let's see some serious improvements.
23rd July
Still very poor service for Smart Shop customers, the Smart Shop check out was once again closed and the reason remains shortage of staff according to the overworked staff on the floor. I find it therefore strange that Sainsbury's are not advertising any jobs in a city where many people are looking for work.
It remains a reflection on they very poor management of this store and it's time for a change at the top and the introduction of some customer service, a concept which I doubt the current manager has heard of.

Once again this morning I used Smart Shop which Sainsbury's encourage as it saves them paying check out staff (and indeed the staffed checkouts in Carlisle have now been reduced to four to discourage people using them) only to once again find that the Smart Shop check out is closed. So Sainsbury's what is this customer contempt all about, you make staffed checkouts unavailable and then close the smart shop checkouts forcing those who have used Smart Shop to queue up with everyone who hasn't used it?
It is contempt for customers in a store that is so badly managed (and of course the manager remains unavailable to speak to a customer) that I've been avoiding it as there are other choices of places to go.
It's time the manager was cleared out and a new and competent one brought in.
29th August 2025
Yet again today the Smart Shop checkout was closed with staff reporting that they have insufficient numbers working to staff it in spite of the fact that Friday morning is a peak shopping time. There were also more gaps on the shelves than usual so much so that I went elsewhere to finish off my shop because of the number of things missing.
This store is badly managed by someone who clearly should not be in the post and who doesn't respond to customers in any way at all. It's simply not good enough and Sainsbury's need to take action on their incompetent employee. Quickly.

Good store, clean isles. Argos, which is very useful. Has tons of good stuff. Just a bit pricey.

Overall a good shop. Has a clothing area and lots of aisles, including an Argos which is helpful after the Kingstown one closed.

Great value and choice

A medium sized store, so has most, but maybe not everything for the weekly shop. Clean and tidy though and staff friendly enough.

This is a very large store, and this store has an Argos in store. Though Sainsbury's has a sizeable, but limited range of household stock, Sainsbury's makes up for it by having an Argos.
There is an extremely large and extensive range of food products available, more then the discount stores. Prices are a bit higher, but variety is the spice of life, as there is more choice.
This store has plenty of car parking, and disabled spaces, and toilets are also available inside.
The entrance to the store is wheelchair accessible.

We don't normally shop here. It would be nice to see more staff on the tills instead of self service tills.
