Brilliant place to break a journey down South from Scotland. Lovely staff, comfortable room and dogs made very welcome. Just be aware of the usual extra charge for them, which wasn't taken when booking with Booking.Com. There's another great pub 3 mins over the river which was bustling on a Friday night where you can get good pub food and another warm welcome. Had a quiet night's sleep and a really lovely continental breakfast - epic watermelon! Definitely recommend staying here.

Tom very kindly allowed me to stay at the dukes the night before my wedding alongside my bridal party. Nothing was too much trouble, tom went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect! The atmosphere in the morning was amazing. The space available for us getting ready was dreamy! Thankyou for taking the added stress away and for allowing us to stay at the dukes! Very comfortable and quiet room run by friendly and helpful hosts. The village is pretty with lovely walks by the river and an excellent pub for food.

Friendly, attentive professional staff. Welcoming comfortable beautiful village Inn. Comfortable bed, clean, warm sound proof room. Great dining & breakfast. Great location. Plenty of car parking. Well maintained grounds. Quiet village, local shop & PO. Train STN, famous Settle to Carlisle line. Great location for exploring, walking.

We recently stayed on a two night Travelzoo deal. The hotel is finished to a lovely stylish clean standard. The pub food was lovely, fresh and tasty. We did find it a little steeper price wise to what we are familiar with.
The room was nicely finished and comfortable. The light did pour through the window when cars drove past at night and also under the door from the hallway which kept me awake. The radiator in the room was technical and it wouldn?t come on so we were happy to have an electric heater too.
Breakfast was continental, it was nice but we felt it was missing some meat and maybe more exciting cheeses. The coffee was lovely.
The staff were friendly and helpful but out of the three we dealt with we felt one of them wasn?t so professional and sincere. Shouting things to the kitchen before the door was closed and generally a bit rude.
The check in /out times were a touch late/early.
Otherwise well done Dukes head and travelzoo too.

Stayed for a nearby wedding and the staff couldn?t have been friendlier or more helpful during our stay. Room was tidy with a comfy bed and decent shower.
We ate downstairs for breakfast both mornings and also got a regular meal one night and a sunday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed all of it including our service during. Compliments to the chef and all the staff working here for making our short stay a fantastic one.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch there last week. Nice fresh veg and plenty gravy. I am quite fussy about eating out but thoroughly enjoyed this venue. Would highly recommend

I only bought a pint and sat in the sun on the grass at the rear so it's difficult to comment on rooms or service. The Inn looks nicely furnished, quite smart and was popular for a sunny Saturday lunchtime.It would be nice to return during an evening and try the meals to get a better feeling for the place, seems nice!

We booked a meal in the restaurant and it was really good. We came on Sunday and the roast was delicious. The vegetarian nut roast was amazing and yummy. Very friendly staff.

Wonderful, sincere, warm reception (especially for the dog). Perfect location for Carlisle, Penrith, the Lakes, historical site seeing, walking and relaxing. Great friendly bar on the Friday night, Fabulous food. Refurbished with character to a really high standard. Tom and his family were quite rightly proud of their inn, and happy to go the extra mile to ensure you have a memorable stay. We?ll be back.
