Amazing food and nice choice of beers, lovely vibe inside and out, dogs very welcome and staff so friendly and brilliant at their jobs. Definitely going to come back again when we're in the area.

Excellent! A real English country pub and inn with some cozy ensuite rooms.
Good beer selection with some local ales and also cider and gin.
Good English food, not only fish and chips.
It is located in the small and nice village of Armathwaite, not so far from the main roads M6 and A6 between Carlisle and Penrith.

Real shame. Lovely welcoming staff, excellent lager, lovely setting. Unfortunately our table was on the grass area above the main seating area, with no table numbers. Wasn?t told this was an issue when ordering food. Placed order, paid, and after about an hour I decided to go back in and ask where food was. The order hadn?t been put through to the kitchen, presumably as we were sat on these tables, and when I mentioned this to the more senior member of the bar team (possibly manager/owner), she went off to find out the issue, communicated clearly in front of me with other staff that the order hadn?t gone through, then left it to a younger member of staff to come and apologise, and re-take my order. I totally appreciate these things happen, and no one to blame. Mistakes happen now and again, however I feel like that was a prime opportunity to show some empathy, apologise, perhaps offer a free drink and put things right (I wouldn?t be writing this if that had happened). But unfortunately this didn?t happen. No compensation given, and when our meals finally did come, the ham was cold as if bought in, and the fish and chips came with garden peas instead of mushy which we asked for?.(twice). If these meals had arrived within 30 mins we wouldn?t be bothered, we just wanted a quick dinner on our way home from seeing family in KO. No one came to check or ask if our food was ok. Not one for writing a review believe it or not, but such a shame when opportunities were there for the place to redeem the evening and apologise properly or provide compensation.

Only stayed for one night, but will definitely go back again when in the area.
Service from the staff was second to non, food was exquisite (possibly the best steak&ale pie I've ever had) the room was a wonderful contrast of traditional pub / farm building meets modern contemporary air bnb type property.
Would highly recommend.

A fantastic little pub in a gorgeous village. We had a good meal inside - the old walls are amazing. Excellent staff service and the craft/local beers are great. Some decent vegitarian options on the menu. There's a fantastic walk by the river you can do afterwards upstream from the bridge.
