Booked an evening meal here when stuck for food on the Pennine Way. Good beer, great vegetarian options and a good selection of board games....

Arrived at the Stag on Sunday afternoon, and enjoyed a couple of drinks in the lovely beer garden. Having asked on arrival if we could eat, it took almost an hour for the staff to tell us we could not eat (in the beer garden). No reason given. We could easily have spent £70 on drinks and food here, but instead took ourselves to the fabulous Black Swan at Culgaith. In terms of service and welcome, the 2 pubs were night and day... I recognise times are hard in hospitality, but pubs can sometimes do more to help themselves. Will avoid next time.

In response to the stag team comment 3 weeks ago of Lois Windle, putting the service we received aside I attended the egg hunt with my grandson, he was excited and I didn't want to disappoint him, however I was extremely disappointed with the owner's attitude towards him, telling him he couldn't have an egg until all the other children got one first, how do you think that made him feel?
We have visited dufton for the last 4 years, always eating all our meals at the Stag, this particular weekend we were also there to to spread our sisters ashes as she also loved Dufton.
I'm sorry you feel aggrieved giving away a 99p egg, rest assured we will not be visiting in the future, we don't go where we are not welcome.
