I got to dove cottage around 3.20pm just to find out that the final tour had finished. Feeling a bit fed up that I couldn't go back the following day, I took some photos outside as I did I saw some workers by the front door of the cottage, I asked them if they would be so kind to take some photos inside and asked if I just wanted to take a look as they were setting up for a private function. That really was great of them to do that and the cottage in side is really peaceful and calm inside a true slice of old England. And encourage people to visit the cottage, as it's run as a tour normally with a guide , but due to the kindness of the ladies doing the private function they allowed me to see a part of the area I wanted to see without ruining my plans for the rest of my trip and hope the people that run the house congratulate them on going above and beyond good customer service..

Over priced. £14 entry even if you just want to visit the cottage (includes museum & woods)Fails to make clear the visit can only be viewed via a tour guide with set times.Externally, Dove Cottage is surrounded and nearly smothered by small non historical buildings. Most are slate but it just don?t work!Very disappointing.

a lovely spot celebrating the lives and works of William and Dorothy Wordsworth. great exhibitions and nice introductory video before the visit to the cottage itself - the member of staff who accompanied us was clearly really knowledgeable and enthusiastic and we had a nice chat about Dorothy's journals and the recent surge of scholarly interest in them. café was also lovely and serves a great sausage roll!

An absolutely amazing place worth visiting. The Dove Cottage is atmospheric and full of history, the guides are great and the landscape of Lake District around are just stunning!

I was given the absolute privilege of being able to handle and read from a first edition of Wordsworth's Prelude that was owned by his daughter. This is an absolutely fantastic space and does amazing work in terms of both historical preservation and education.

Fine place to spend an hour or so. Not sure I understand or like poetry any more than I did before but I?m better informed

Amazing place, beautiful location. Extremely interesting and knowledgable staff. Extremely enjoyable for both people who love poetry and don?t.

There are activities for children, you can go for a year once you purchase the admission fee, and a video is played before the birthplace experience, and there is also Korean language support! The lake seen from the garden outside the birthplace is also pretty.

A wonderful and immersive experience, made special by Dove Cottage being as it was, with papers, furnishings and items in the rooms, which gave a good idea of life at the time of William and his sister and family living there. Also, the external walks and quotes, as well as an excellent museum, were both relaxing and inspirational. George was an outstanding guide whose deep knowledge was most informative and enjoyable to listen to.

Well-preserved house of the great nature's poet. Gives an idea of what they actually went through during their time.

I love it. The dove cottage is being the only attraction for me to visit windmere on bowness, though I love the entire place, but dove cottage is exceptional. The trust keep the household as original as possible. His manuscripts ,his writing table, the books, the letters...all was there for visitors. I was thrilled to have this experience, the stuff and the guide was really nice.

It?s decent - but not a lot to see unless you have very specific interest in Wordsworth. The video on Wordsworth was the highlight of the visit.Grasmere is one of the most beautiful places in the world though. Interestingly I felt you will understand the emotions of Wordsworth much better on the grassy highlands than inside a house.

Great cafe with super cakes and coffee. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Museum and tour were very informative and enjoyable. We also liked being encouraged to express our poetic sides on postcards.
