Had a wonderfully relaxed evening with friends. This has become our go to place when we want to spend quality time and catch up, we can always rely on a lovely welcoming atmosphere and yummy food, ambience is great, and you are not required to yell across the table to be heard. This evenings highlights were the baked brie and winter salad, along with all of the desserts, special shout out for the tiramisu, which was devoured by my partner who once quite famously told a waiter in Italy that he had never had a better tiramisu than his sisters! We will be back

Firstly, if you have any pre-stay queries, they are always answered so quickly and with humour - a great first impression!I have eaten in The Yan a number of times now, with friends, my partner and by myself. I really love the cosy feel of the bistro and also, that tables are set out so they are not all crammed in alongside one another, it gives such a feeling of space and of privacy. The ambience and service is just perfect, nothing stiff or formal, just the right side of friendly and relaxed. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal at The Yan! The food is really very good indeed and just the right portion sizes. I've had the famous shepherd's pie a number of times now - unctuous melting cheese on top, fluffy mash, exceptional pulled meat and so tender. Perfect comfort food! I had Sunday lunch with my partner and we both agreed it was fantastic. The glamping pod was so well thought out and set up. Loved the little porch to shelter from the rain when removing muddy boots and it was also the perfect spot to star gaze at night, just incredible. Inside was so cosy and had a lovely warm feeling to it. Lots of little extras such as The Yan book, the sticky toffee pudding bites (yum!), plenty of crockery and cutlery and lights and plug sockets in convenient places. Easy to put luggage under the bed for storage and use the workspace nearby for stuff. The shower was hot and great pressure, I would personally like a bit more storage in the shower cubicle as there's nowhere to put shower gel etc and also near the sink but appreciate this is tricky! Such amazing views and so quiet at night too, the stay far exceeded expectations. It was reassuring to have staff on site in case of issues too but there were none. Ordering food to the pod from the bistro via the QR code was so easy too and felt such a treat. In terms of location, The Yan is in the perfect position to explore many local attractions, go walking or just take in the views. It's got the best of both worlds: quiet and scenic but in the thick of it. You get amazing quality food that is unpretentious but utterly delicious, easy, no-fuss, can-do service and well thought out luxurious and very comfortable accommodation.

Came here for my friends birthday, the food was next level, drinks amazing, we were served by Caitlin and Pete who both made our night, the friendliest people they made us feel so welcome, amazing atmosphere. Perfect night, can?t speak highly enough!!

So disappointing. We went for a special occasion and were so looking forward to tonight?s meal. We paid £30 for a taxi there and back so we could enjoy the wine, and Amber taxis got us there 15 minutes early. There was an additional 15 minute delay getting our table which only gave us an hour and 15 minutes before we had to give the table up for the next sitting. Even with a 15 minute extension, it was hard to enjoy our meal, as it felt so rushed. We would have liked to enjoy a dessert but weren?t shown a menu in time, and had to leave because the taxi arrived. The restaurant said we would only have 15 minutes extra, so that?s when I rescheduled the taxi. Things were pretty flexible. The food was lovely, but we had to leave as we literally finished eating the last mouthful of food. My partner had to down his wine. They gave us some free olives and cornichons at the start by way of recompense, but that was all. We paid £130, I felt so rushed I didn?t even query the bill. I feel fleeced. No one seemed to care that we had to leave, we?d explained our situation, perhaps because we weren?t residents at the hotel. We should have gone elsewhere.

Although we picked possibly the wettest weekend this year, we had a fabulous time at this unique location where everything was top notch in a family run business. The whole team were exceptional and provided super food, excellent accommodation and a setting unparalleled. See you next time and have a great Christmas. Tim, Liz, Tom & Evie

I came here for my birthday meal and it was amazing. I wasn't excited to have a Sunday lunch for my birthday but this was special. A thousand percent would recommend. I'd love to visit again and try the rest of their menu

We came here for breakfast two days in a row (the second time because we just couldn?t resist given the brilliant experience we had from the first) and both times equally blew our minds, if not more.Hands down the best breakfast we?ve had thus far in the UK. You can immediately tell that they use high quality ingredients and take a lot of care and pride in preparing and cooking your meals. The service was impeccable. The ambiance was cozy and rustic in a somewhat intimate setting.Everyone was super friendly and warm. Shout out to Richard. We cannot recommend this place enough.Oh and that view - it?s the kind that takes your breath away. What else could one ask for?Like Arnie says, we will be back!

The best meal we had in the Lake District. The autumn salad was tremendous and a huge hit.The baked Brie was delicious. The shepherd's pie and beef bourguignyan put my home made versions to shame and I'll definitely be changing my recipe to be more like yours! We didn't have a bad dish, everyone was impressed by their choices!Make sure to book though or you'll likely miss out.

Peace is my priority - anytime, anywhere and I couldn?t think of anywhere better to kick off my much needed break.Great location.Close to everywhere we needed to be yet so tranquil.I appreciated the location even more after coming back from the hustle and bustle of Grasmere Village. It was our first time visiting the Lake District and I?m glad we chose The Yan.The sleep quality here is on another level.I could live here forever. The Fold being a budget friendly option really exceeded my expectations. It was so cosy and comfortable. The staff here are courteous. The food is amazing. They don?t skimp on quality here.I have to mention that we were highly disappointed with a few restaurants in Ambleside and wish we should have rather stuck to the bistro for our 2nd and 3rd night dinners instead.I can?t fault anything here and we will definitely be returning.***No matter what you do DON?T miss breakfast.Their coffee is amazing and I really enjoyed the salmon and eggs. There is a QR order system. The food can be delivered to your cottage but that early morning breeze and short walk to the bistro really started my days off well.

We met old friends for a meal at The Yan. I can highly recommend the superb beef bourguignon. Our friends paid, so I can't tell you what the value was, but looking at the menu most mains were just over £20.One word of caution. It's very popular, so booking is essential and they normally ask you to leave on time if you eat early to allow the second sitting in.

A true hidden gem. We went to The Yan for dinner and had the best meal of our stay in the Lake District (including the Michelin stared Source restaurant). Food is delicious, service excellent, wine list is small but perfectly formed and it is a true dog friendly restaurant... if you are looking for great food, friendly service with a lovely glass (or two) of wine I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant

My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting The Yan Bistro near Grasmere on 4th August to celebrate her birthday, and what an unforgettable experience it was! The moment we stepped into this charming establishment, we were greeted by a relaxed, calm, and rustic ambiance that set the tone for a delightful evening. The staff at The Yan Bistro truly went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was exceptional. Their attentiveness was warm & genuine, and their willingness to accommodate our preferences made us feel truly valued and cared for. From start to finish, they made sure that nothing was too much trouble. As we perused the menu, we were intrigued by the unique offerings. For starters, we indulged in the Samosa, a creative and upscale take on the classic fish & chips. The flavours were a delightful surprise, and it set the stage for the culinary journey that awaited us.For our main courses, my wife enjoyed the comforting Shepherd's Pie while I ventured into the realm of flavours with the Summer Seafood Stew. This dish, a harmonious combination of Morecambe Bay shrimp, haddock, and house-smoked salmon in a roast pepper, smoked tomato, and basil sauce, left me utterly speechless. I can confidently say that it's the most remarkable main course I've savoured in the past 15 years. The balance and intensity of flavours in each bite were nothing short of exquisite. The dish was further elevated by the creative accompaniments of pickled beetroot, spring onions, and charred corn puree on sourdough toast. To end this remarkable culinary journey, we delved into desserts that were equally divine. The Chocolate Mousse, adorned with dark chocolate and white chocolate shards, accompanied by raspberry compote, toffee popcorn, and salted caramel, was a symphony of textures and flavours that left us craving more. Additionally, the Sticky Toffee Pudding, drenched in toffee sauce and served with vanilla ice cream and clotted cream, was the perfect harmony of sweetness and indulgence. The Yan Bistro's commitment to crafting unique, flavourful, and artfully presented dishes is truly commendable. The entire experience left us deeply satisfied and eager to return. The combination of a relaxed ambiance, attentive staff, and an extraordinary menu ensures that we will be making a swift return to this culinary gem. A heartfelt thank you to The Yan Bistro for making my wife's birthday celebration an evening to remember. We can't wait to return and explore more of the culinary wonders they have to offer.

Oxtail and brisket fritter is pretty nice. Crunchy and flavorful. The olive and cucumbers nibbles are appetizing. Though the olives can enjoy a little more sourness, they go well with to the gherkins. The baba ghanoush is a mild English twist of the MENA staple. It has less smoky or eggplant flavor but still taste good and comes with warm tortilla bread.Shepard pie arrives with buttery aroma. Cheesy mash is fabulous. Slow cooked lamb is generous and tender. Ham is fragrant and streaky. The peas are surprisingly good? the best whole peas I?ve had as a fan of mushy pea. Probably fresh and not frozen.Seafood stew tastes nice with warm peppery and tomatoey flavors. There are quite a lot of goodies inside, though presentation-wise it maybe better to keep the ingredients in larger pieces ;) The sourdough toast topped with charred corn puree and toasted seeds is super delicious. I thought my it was cheese but it may be better this way.Side veggies are grilled and more smoky than the baba ghanoush, which I enjoyed.Wimble-yan is a summer beauty. The custard doesn?t has too much egg taste but it?s also not too heavy or greasy. Overall it?s not too sweet except for the meringue shard (decoration). The stacked crepes are not as thin or fluffy as mille crepe cakes, but somehow I quite like the firmer and more chewy texture.Chocolate mousse is larger than expected. A safe choice as always.? breakfast:Flat white is excellent. Rich and creamy. have a great balance. (Glory is the whole milk :>)Creamy porridge is surprisingly good. I was worried that it would be made with heavy cream, but it?s just finely cooked milky and smooth porridge with a perfect balance of consistency. The house smoked salmon comes as fried bits? a little dry and personally I?d prefer cold cooked pieces. The creamy scrambled egg isn?t creamy, but fortunately it?s also not too oily? perhaps cooking for a little shorter time can help it reach a more creamy state.Baked beans are also delightful, not too sweet and full of tomato flavors. Field mushrooms are super aromatic.Sourdough is fragrant, and the sausages are good.?The room is spacious and smells really good with the reed diffuser. The carpet feels lush. Everyone is friendly. Highly recommend despite the quite difficult parking space (the pavement can be quite sharp for the tires). A little away from the Grasmere town center but quiet and beautiful.
