it was like a day out at Crufts! Far too many dogs. It was like a dog hotel with bring your owner! Tables left with dirty, tables left dirty and not wiped clean. Appeared lacking in staff for the size of the establishment.Room, family room. Lovely spacious cleaned family room, tv kettle, ironing board. Visually it looked clean and tidy. On using the loo we were met with faeces in the pan that looked like it had been there what could have been sometime. Not ensuring the basics are done does leave you with doubts of the cleanliness.FOOD: there was nothing on the menu for my daugher and I (veggie options not appetising). We asked if the kitchen could knock something simple up later but told the menu would not be deviated from. With this in mind we had to eat earlier than we wanted (before 5pm) just so we could have cheese toastie and chips which was only served until 5pm.We ordered a mix of starters, mains, light bites and puddings. Unfortunately the food looked lovely but lacked taste and all servings were very bland and not worth the high prices. I had a cheese toastie and chips (chips nice, cheese toastie tasted of nothing but had a tasty dog hair included in it) my husband noticed as i was about to take one of my last bites. very poor. After waiting 45 Minutes AFTER finishing our meals we had to prompt the staff that we wanted our pudding. Really really disappointing start to our stay.Breakfast: lovely breakfast served with alot of choice. Windowsill hadnt been wiped in a while and a mars bar wrapper discarded on it.We have stayed at the Angel inn before in Bowness and chose the swan hotel due to it being a sister hotel to them, thinking the standards would be similar. The size of the swan is big and they had hardly any staff. Long waits for the bar due to lack of staff and 1-2 staff members checking in, serving at the bar, taking meal orders, showing customers to rooms, clearing tables is not enough for the hotels customer demands. In the communal areas it just lacked cleanliness in my opinium, again this could be to do with the lack of staff in the main areas. Staff looked stressed by trying to do a multitude of different jobs at once.Staff were always polite and pleasant Throughout our stay.

Had a wonderful stay with our Labs at the Swan, staff could not have been more friendly, room was spot on, comfy bed, great shower. Bar area cosy with plenty of space in different areas to chill out, breakfast was so so tasty. Location is excellent, 5 min walk to the Gingerbread shop, several walks with stunning views. Free parking.

The location is stunning. Beautiful old inn overlooking the beautiful scenery of the lakes. Only one bar was open the whole time we were there which was a bit of a downer as the open bar wasn't as nice as the closed one. Stay clear of the evening menu as food is not their strong suit. Worst fish and chips ever. Other than that the staff were pleasant. The dining area is unfortunately uncomfortable and not as welcoming as the bar area. Overall a lovely place it just needs some refinement and better chefs.Rooms: Room was clean and basic. Walls are thin so we were kept awake by dogs in the night. (Dog friendly hotel) So perhaps they should keep guests without dogs separate?Food & drinks: Worst fish and chips I've ever had. Chips were somehow soggy and undercooked? Peas were cold and one piece of fish was old and had a putrid smell. Couldn't be bothered to send it back as would've had to walk in the rain to find an alternative so just left the majority. Breakfast the next day thankfully saved the day must've been a different chef. I would eat elsewhere next time. Drinks were nice but overpriced.

Visited Grasmere from Ireland and stayed here this weekend for the Wordsworth conference. It was so cozy, clean, the food was delicious and the staff were so helpful. We needed a late check out and the wonderful staff were more than happy to help. Would hands down recommend.

If I could give half a star I would.Depressing.The food was worse than school dinner - a huge pile of powered mash (or tasted/looked like it), with a rubbery hard duck breast (I think that?s what it was) on top, with some boiled cabbage on the side. The fires had gone out at 6pm, no attempt to keep them going, which would have made a very miserable dining room, at least glow. Half of the draft beers had run out.The room was worse than corporate, no bath, no heating (the room was freezing cold). The best thing about the whole experience was the selection of pastries morning. There are some wonderful hotels in the Lakes, avoid this one if you want a bit of atmosphere, cosiness and a decent meal.I wouldn?t wait to get out of there and explore the incredible surrounding.

We had a 2 night stay in January this year and everything about the hotel was brilliant. The staff are very friendly, the food was great, the rooms were lovely and the location is just a few minutes from the centre of Grasmere. We had a fabulous time.

It's extremely challenging to connect with anyone via phone. I've been consistently calling throughout the past two weeks, during various times of the day, including mornings, mid-mornings, lunchtime, afternoons, mid-afternoons, and evenings. I sent an email over a week ago, but unfortunately, there has been no response. There appears to be a significant issue with communication within this organization. The way they manage their business is perplexing to me. It seems evident that they might not be prioritizing customer engagement. It's advisable not to invest your time in attempting to call or make any bookings, as it seems nearly impossible to get through.
