Thoroughly enjoyed my wee stay at Skelwith Bridge Hotel. I needed a short getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life and my stay here was worth the trip. The room was super cosy upon arrival and I was able to check in early despite being half an hour early which was so nice and welcoming. The location is excellent for walks and close to Ambleside. The breakfasts were a great start to my day. The hotel lobby has a very helpful cabinet full of leaflets and walking guides which I found super helpful. Plenty of parking at the hotel with front and rear car parks. I also appreciated having actual room keys, as I find the electronic room card keys you often get a real pain as they can be easily deactivated when stored closely to electronic devices. I noticed a lot of reviews mention the lack of signal reception, but for me personally, this was not a problem as I do not watch television when I'm on a walking holiday. (I actually stored the room's television in the wardrobe during my stay.) The view from my room was stunning, and I could clearly see the sunrise and sunset. In addition the hotel's wifi is excellent so you are able to make calls via Whatsapp and not use up your data. Would highly recommend this hotel, particularly as a solo traveller I felt that all my needs were met. If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful place to stay in the Lake District then this would be the place.Rooms: Clean, cosy and comfortable.Nearby activities: Close proximity to AmblesideWalkability: Great location for walks

Lovely 'superior' room (no.21 at the front of the hotel dorma) with huge bed, two comfy chairs, fully provisioned hot-drinks area, and a full-sized bath. All clean, warm and comfortable.Good little walk along the Cumbrian Way just at the foot of the drive follows the river.Very little noise outside, just the occasional car. No clouds overnight and no light pollution here so the stars were spectacular! One downside is the extractor fan next door (no.20) which set up an annoyingly loud vibration in the dividing wall all night. We both found it difficult to sleep (hence lots of stargazing). This puts me off booking again.Rather than drive into Ambleside (note there are no pavements so it's not a safe walk) we had dinner in their Talbot Bar restaurant, but you have to book as it's busy. Food was very tasty and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed - bar/waiting staff all seemed happy.Breakfast was good - fruit/cereals, toast/jam, plus a cooked breakfast, but as per meal last night the food could have been warmer.

Great room for the night. Superior double was.large. Quiet as well. Staff were lovely and attentive. Great location for walking in the Langdales. Also has the Talbot bar attached for food which was really good.Food & drinks: Had steak pie and lamb shank both really tasty, cooked to perfection. Can?t fault this hotel one bitI came here to spend a couple days out in the rurals readjusting after a short break to the big city. The price for this hotel was reasonable, the staff very friendly and the rooms perfect for what I needed. The building has a sense of charm with its uneven floor and parts of the wall that hurt out.The hotel is located a couple miles from Ambleside and is in a good spot for reaching the majority of attractions in the lakesI can?t think of one negative thing, the only issue I had was the toilet flush was a little weak but that?s hardly a complaint!I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here as a party of four friends for a 2 night mid week stay as we were looking for a hotel with a restaurant and in the Ambleside area. The hotel has a lovely location and central to the south lakes, there?s plenty of parking and a pleasant garden / terrace for drinks / lunch. The restaurant served a good range of dishes and service was good. As a 3 star hotel I wasn?t expecting 4* facilities but the upstairs areas could do with some upgrading and compared with the downstairs lounges which were very nice. The biggest problem though was the lack of ventilation in the corridors leading to the rooms and to some extent in the rooms themselves. We didn?t stay during the hottest days of late but the corridors were unbearably hot. I asked one of the reception staff if the window on one of the landings could be opened (it was quite high up above a ledge so not easy to reach) but she said it wasn?t allowed as there was a big drop on the other side. This seems ridiculous - surely a simple sign might suffice on the window? If not then a restricted opening on the window, or a grille. I also asked the staff for a second hand towel for the room but was told it was only policy for a room for two to have a single towel - something I?ve never encountered before. Whilst the staff on duty were very helpful I didn?t get any impression of a senior manager (not sure who owns the hotel) being around. This might explain some of the issues I?ve highlighted and the inability of the staff to do anything about them. Whilst I enjoyed our stay and the food was good, I wouldn?t stay again because of these issues

We didn't stay here but we did get a flat tire right in front of the hotel and the staff was incredibly helpful -- letting us leave the car in the lot, liaising with the tow truck, checking on the car for us, etc. Great service for people who were not their customers! The service must be amazing for people who are actually paying guests.

Visited Skelwith Bridge Hotel twice for food during our stay. The first time was really busy but we were still welcomed with out dog and found a place to sit. The Pavlova was superb. The second visit was quiet and service was equally efficient and friendly . Food was plentiful and good quality. Would definitely return if in the area.
