Tasty food, friendly service. Gravy on the hot sandwich was to die for. Decent prices for the area.

After reading the menu and seeing pleanty of seating, we were turned away.. such a joke and absolutely ridiculous plenty of seating 10+ tables available but turned away because there's not enough staff to cater for them such a ridiculous excuse. Would not recommend at all staff are obnoxious

We had a great time here. The burgers were super tasty and the atmosphere was really nice. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome.

Solid variety on the menu with daily specials. Pork cutlet was done really well as was the steak and ale pie. Great selection of Gin and a small selection of bottle only beers. Not busy on a weeknight.

Came here after being recommended it. What a disappointment. For the first time in my life i had to send the food back and so did my partner. The chips that came with my steak were awful...and who can get chips wrong but they must have cooked them in old dirty fat cause they were terrible.
Received our money back and even was told by our waiter it isn't the best food. Very disappointed

In the heart of Ambleside, a historical building, with an interesting oak wall and beautiful features. We had the gin of the month which was good. The prawns and chorizo were flavoursome (highly recommended!) as was the burger. The lamb steak, on the other hand, was tough. The service was worthy of a 5 star. And a very interesting story behind the name of the restaurant: The priest hole.

Awful. A can of coke is £3.20. Waiters were rude and ignorant except for one kind gentleman - one of them dropped a glass right beside my mother's leg. I understand mistakes happen but it could have easily jumped up and hit my baby. Sunday roast was dry, veg undercooked, it's the quality of McDonald's but you're paying 5x the price for it. Bad layout for seating too. Overall it seemed unorganised and overpriced for what you get

Unfortunately did not get to try the food here as myself and party were messed around with after booking and had a poor experience with the service over the phone.
I used the website to book a table for 8.30 on a Friday night, several days in advance. I was rang a few hours before the booking to say they don't normally allow bookings for 8.30 as the Kitchen closes at 9.30 and that the website must have been incorrect to allow this. I was asked if I could bring it forward to 8, just so we wouldnt be in a rush while we ate. I said that we would be driving from a distance so I couldn't guarantee this new earlier time, due to traffic. I did say I would keep them updated and at that moment it didn't seem like too big of a deal.
I rang on our way, and said we should be arriving around 8.15. I was then told quite abruptly that if we were any later than 8.15 they wouldn't serve us. By the time we got to our accomodation just up the street, we would have arrived to the restaurant just after 8.15, to which we weren't sure if we'd be served despite my booking being 8.30. We also no longer wanted to eat here as they had made it seem like they really did not want our custom.
It was a shame as some of us had been to the pub before some time ago, and we were looking forward to it greatly. We were also celebrating an occasion and so did not have a place to eat on our trip.
Poorly handled, not the fault of the individual I spoke to on the phone, but if the website doesn't function properly for bookings this needs to be altered. And I did tell them we wouldnt have starters or dessert if that would speed things up for them, but even with that it just seemed like the kitchen had closed early, well before their advertised time, and they just didnt want to serve us. A shame.
