“We arrived looking to do very little during our stay and that's what we got thanks to the staff at the three shires. We were greeted on arrival by Julie who was friendly and easy to talk to. Our room was clean, well decorated and there were some fantastic pictures on the walls. We were very impressed with the bathroom, even down to the heated sensor mirror . The bed was extremely comfortable. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was delicious and we were able to relax in the lounge afterwards. There is a great choice for breakfast and Julie was a pleasure to talk to. We ate out at the Eltermere Inn the second night which I regretted as it wasn't as welcoming as the three shires. I would recommend this place to friends and family and we will be visiting again in the near future.”

“Friendly, welcoming staff, a comfortable quiet room and ideally located for exploring Grasmere and beyond. The breakfast buffet, which included a hot breakfast, was particularly appealing and sets one up for a day's walking. Ideal really.”

“As regular visitors to the Lakes we had visited The Drunken Duck before and were pleased to return for Sunday lunch. Booking is essential, but although the car park was busy when we arrived, it quietened down as the afternoon progressed and we enjoyed a leisurely meal in the pleasant and uncramped restaurant. Service was quick and efficient, though perhaps lacking the warmth you find in some places. The food was excellent and most of the party opted for the roast beef, tender and served with tasty red cabbage and large Yorkshire puddings. I enjoyed the oyster mushroom starter and a warming rice pudding with damson jam to follow. The menu is interesting and varied and the chocolate hazelnut dessert was particularly relished. The price reflects the quality of the food, though the 12.5% service charge automatically added to the bill felt a bit steep. Overall, worth a visit.”

“We stayed for 2 nights at the end of September. The hotel is located right on the edge of Lake Windermere with plenty of free parking in the hotel grounds. We had a room across the road from the main hotel in the annexe which was less than a 30 second walk to the main hotel for dinner, breakfast etc. We had room 49 which although a bit small was perfectly acceptable with a very comfortable bed and pillows. The cooked breakfast was buffet style with all the usual ingredients and very tasty. Staff all very nice and check in procedure slick and easy. Would I stay here again? Absolutely”
