A lovely shop choc-full of delightful, quirky items. Many shops with a similar vibe can be lovely for a browse and then you inevitably walk out empty handed - not "Detail." There was so much I would have loved to purchase but I kept it to a lovely embroidery kit which I've never seen anywhere else. The staff were also very friendly and indulged us in some lovely banter. We will be back, soon!?

Went here with a group of friends (17 and 18) and got followed around the entire shop by a lady to the point of being so uncomfortable we had to leave. I understand protecting stock but profiling doesnt seem the way to go

How very sad. I saw this lovely gift shop from the street and it appeared very welcoming so my family and my dog and I went in. Some lovely items to browse. All of a sudden a lady walked up to where I was standing and stuck a big sign up right in front of me about dogs having to remain on the entrance mat, no polite words or chat, not even an acknowledgement. My children then began to pick things up to look at as they had birthday money to spend and the lady kept making moves like she wanted to take the items out of their hands.Not family friendly or dog friendly but a good store for adults to browse.

It's not often that me and my 8yo son are on the same page, but we both could have spent all day in this delightful gem of a shop. A real antidote to the numerous tacky gift shops and adventure gear stores in Ambleside, we both spent the bulk of our holiday spends in here on craft supplies, jigsaws, books and mementos.

I went into the shop over a month ago with my husband and will be frequently visiting from now on. Both staff were absolutely lovely, very friendly and chatty. It was lovely to be in a shop where the staff seem to genuinely get along with each other and allow customers to join in with their banter and have a laugh.Stock choices are wonderful, and the young lady downstairs was very helpful in answering our questions. Clearly staff are passionate about the shop and what they sell.Overall a very enjoyable experience, will be recommending the shop to family and friends who are going up to the lakes.

Felt very uncomfortable in this shop today. I was looking forward to browsing with a view to buying a gift for my older daughter. As my younger daughter and myself made our way downstairs to view the craft area, we were quite obviously followed and watched by one of the shop assistants. Suggestion going forward ...... if you want customers to enjoy your shop and browse, purchase a security camera!!

The products here are obviously carefully curated and the owner undoubtedly has an eye for her niche. But. Seeing staff told off for handing change to a customer in the wrong order reflects an unpleasant undertone, and having the owner fuss around you while you browse to return items to ?just so? is off putting. You feel watched, not welcome here, which is an odd atmosphere to create given the target market in Ambleside. Perhaps the owner will reflect on the tone of her previous replies to reviews, her interaction with customers, and the greater sales that she might achieve were she more welcoming of a greater diversity of customers and the mild chaos they may leave in their wake. Edit: In response to the owners reply, my review is based on several visits over a period of several years, and I stand by my observations. I have no axe to grind! My Google reviews reflect my experience. I rather feel the owners response reflects my observations, though. Edit 2: My mother-in-law was followed around, too. She felt very uncomfortable.

Gorgeous shop, perfect place for really nice quality gifts. If you go downstairs there?s even more. I also bought some wool to crochet my daughter a chunky scarf. Heidi was very helpful and recommended the number of balls I would need, such lovely soft Rowan wool, the only problem was choosing which of the beautiful colours. The scarf is so lovely I now have to go back to get some more wool as my other daughter now wants one. Xx
