Spent 3 evenings out of 5 during our stay in Alston at The Turks Head, no food but great service, lovely warm atmosphere, very welcoming staff and locals, just what a local pub should be like (the Black Sheep was spot on as well!!)

Went to visit this place last night after having been recommended it by another pub in the town.
Looked on Google and it says it was open until 11pm.
We arrived at 8 pm and the front door was closed and locked.
Abit surprised we looked through the window and saw 3 people in there drinking with the barmen stood behind the bar talking to the drinkers.
We went back to the Cumberland which was open and serving until 10

Strong local crowd, delightful staff, and a good pint of guiness with a shamrock on it. They were very accomodating and let me charge my electric bike that was about to die, which was the perfect excuse to get a pint by the fireplace.
