A very big thank you to Cath who mailed me a lost certificate that has been dropped/lost at the premise. Kind and diligent.

As a gentleman with a discerning palate and an appreciation for genuine hospitality, I must say the Spar store in Alston exceeded my expectations. I had the pleasure of speaking with several staff members during my visit - all of whom were unfailingly polite and friendly. It's a rare thing these days to feel such pleasantries in a simple shopping trip.
To my delight, the food selection leaned notably healthy for a change. Though I usually reach for a hearty burger, I was intrigued to find grilled chicken burgers available. Initially skeptical, I took a chance - and I?m pleased I did. Well seasoned and rich in flavour, the chicken reminded me pleasantly of a peri peri marinade. It was every bit as satisfying as a tower burger, yet refreshingly lighter at just 399 calories.
The store also offered a well-curated range of sauces - HP, mustard, ketchup, and even mayonnaise tucked away on a separate stand - all from trusted brands of course. I originally intended to buy just one item but ended up leaving with a selection of snacks, encouraged by both the layout and the good-natured atmosphere.
My only small quibble would be the 20-minute parking limit. Given how easily one can lose track of time browsing and enjoying a meal, an extension to 30 minutes would be a welcome improvement - and a far better fit for the average lunch break.
All told, I shall certainly be returning when next in Alston. My compliments to the team for running such a well-presented and welcoming establishment.

Friendly staff.Service is often very slow, with only one of the three tills attended, but maybe they are understaffed.Comparatively expensive.£23.99 for a bag of kindling recently was extremely expensive.

I've visited the store many times when I'm around this area and I've always enjoyed my experience grabbing groceries. The staff are very very very very friendly and they are Autistic friendly to me as I have Autism. It is a fairly big store and they have the place stocked up very well even through the bad weather seasons. You cannot fault them they are always there if you need them. If you need help with anything from the store the staff would give you Assistance if you need help from them. This store will always be here for you as long as you need them to get your groceries. This store is also a very lucky for scratchcard the lottery every time I come to this shop I seems to win £20 quid every time on the scratch cards keep up the lovely work SPAR Alston from BenIt is hereby satisfied that the following (SPAR Alston store petrol garage) is Autistic friendly and has been approved and checked by Ben ? ? ? ? ? ?

An efficient combination of gas station & fully stocked supermarket. I found everything I needed to prepare a mail and have a glass of wine to go with it. I'm sure it is not the intention, but I could park my car for the day in the car-park as well.
