For a Saturday teatime, it was quiet, when we arrived - just passing, hungry and wanting food sooner than returning to base and making something. The barmaid was friendly and directed me to menus, so I could check there was enough choice.
They have very good outside cabins, where we could eat, too, so we were on!
Sadly, stocks were low, so only Birra Moretti of 3 lagers was available for my wife. Awaiting our food, nigh on a dozen folks arrived in ones and twos - like they all met at 6pm or such.
Food arrived in reasonably quick time (ours was the only order that went in then). It was smartly presented and the burger and fishcake mains both came with a nice, fresh side salad. Chips were basic frozen variety but cooked perfectly and crisp not greasy.
The Sweet & Sour Chicken was described as bland and looked mass-produced. Again, the accompanying rice was perfectly cooked. The burger patties were clearly more at the commodity end of the scale but the brioche bun was fresh and light.
The Smoked Haddock & Mozzarella Fish Cakes appeared factory-made but were happily polished off. Garden peas were spot-on and not in short supply. Sauces to accompany dishes were in plastic packs and not the best I've tasted.
Overall, prices were £2-3 less than many places and that was fair. Personally, I'd rather have paid more for better but we left little and departed full without great damage to our wallets.

A truly welcoming and charming pub in Shortlanesend. I stopped by The Old Plough for a quick drink and was greeted by the friendliest owner ? he made me feel completely at ease and was a joy to chat with. His dog Leila was incredibly well-behaved and added such a lovely, warm touch to the visit.
The pub is clean, cosy, dog and family-friendly, with ample outdoor space and parking. The prices are very reasonable, and they serve food as well. It?s clear they care about providing a great experience.
Sadly, the pub has lost a lot of business due to a nearby road change ? but it?s a hidden gem that really deserves community support. Highly recommended!

Had a lunch and a drink here. Decent pub menu, fast service and a delightful barman. Fair value too.

Really nice welcome, we came in early and the bat man was happy to serve food before the actual serving time.
He was very nice and nothing was too much.
Will definitely come here again.

Best pub i found in Cornwall basically due to having the drink i like meaning John Smith's smooth bitter the food was good and the people running it are great as well

Amazing good quality food at a good price, a wide range of pints and spirits available and an lovely cozy atmosphere. (Bonus point for cute pub dogs)
Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options available, I have the vegetable lasagna and it was very delicious

A welcoming pub with a good selection on the menu. The plough burger was delicious as was the steak and ale pie, finished off with the spotted duck and custard, lovely. Reasonably priced. Heated seating as pods were available outside.

First time I have been in The Plough Inn, took my family for lunch and my son played pool. The food was the best pub food I have ever tasted and great value for money. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Will certainly go back again
