Wow! What a lovely place, amazing setting. We spoke to Sharon before we came. She promised a warm welcome. We have a superior double room overlooking the harbour, with a balcony out of this world. Had a great meal in the restaurant last night, staff are spot on and very friendly. Our little cocker spaniel is loving it. Looking forward to another day, and will definitely come back. I think this has got to be the best spot in St Mawes. - Angie

I booked the night as I was dropping my son at Falmouth uni after travelling for 7 hours I thought this would be a good idea. I arrived and was checked in efficiently and with a smile. The room was clean and just what I expected. The 2 waiting/ bar staff were attentive and polite and my evening 3 course meal was lovely, especially the Steak and kidney pudding , I will defiantly book again when driving to the uni .

I guess it depends on your expectations and your personal standards and that is why the reviews vary so much. For me pretty much everything about the hotel was super. The staff were friendly and efficient. The room was neat, tidy and nicely decorated. The view was of rooftops, but as we neither asked for, nor paid for a seaview you could hardly complain. The view from the dining room was magnificent and the food was above average with, each night usually, a couple mains I would have been happy to choose. The food was served super quick. The only downside was the walk from reception to room. Up a few steps here, through a door there, round a corner, in the lift and so on. Clearly they are used to dealing with coach parties and appeared to do so efficiently. We had a great week blessed by the weather which meant we could make the most of St Mawes and nearby Falmouth and Truro.

Stayed at the Ship and Castle for two nights. Lovely location right by the water and staff were very friendly. We stayed in a Standard Double room, unfortunately the mattress was very uncomfortable and didn?t make for a peaceful nights sleep. The water pressure from the shower was also very poor.

Makes a good base for exploring the Roseland peninsula. Room basic but comfortable. Great breakfast, shame the same can't be said about the evening meals. Only 4 choices and they were like microwave ready meals.

What a surprise !! We did not expect that this 3 star hotel would be what it turned out to be. Rooms were clean and we had a spectacular view over the harbour (room 115)from our large terrace. The stars of our stay were the staff who were a pleasure to have serving us Bernard the Manager was fantastic and seemed to be everywhere asking guests if everyone was OK. Don't be put off by other comments !!

Stayed for 4 nights and was very surprised with our room, it was very modern, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The views from our windows overlooking the harbour and the beach, the meals were hot, presented well and very tasty plenty to choose from. The staff were very friendly and helpful, a great position for the hotel. Thank you to all the staff they all work so hard.

This place is so tired. When we arrived we were given the key to room 122 and as we made our way to the room it was obvious that this hotel needed love. Paint flaking off the walls and lying on the carpet for the duration of our stay. Very basic rooms, not the cleanest I have stayed in, the window was so dirty it obscured the view of the harbour. The fire alarm went off several times a day for no apparent reason. Staff seem disinterested and as tired as the hotel itself. Time for major investment I think, either that or close the place.

We had a great couple of nights here. Wonderful location right in the heart of St Mawes and lovely view of the harbour from the restaurant. The rooms were pleasant and clean. One of the best things was the staff who were absolutely lovely and could not do enough to help, particularly the reception team. This is a good value hotel and a different scene from the high end hotels in St Mawes, so expectations need to be in line with this. The breakfast was pretty basic some of the cooked food ran out, but I did hear staff say they are keen to avoid waste and extra was brought when we asked. All in all this was a brilliant value, super friendly hotel in a lovely setting.

Just come back from a 4 night break. We upgraded to a superior room with balcony, which was well worth the little extra money. The room was very clean, the food was excellent and the staff were friendly and welcoming & would do anything for us. A special mention to Sharon in reception and Summer in the dining room. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The hotel was amazing and so we're the staff. I travelled with Caledonian and Mick the driver was outstanding in testing circumstances. The beach at Perranporth was the highlight of my holiday, even though we only had 1 hrs there but 3 hrs in Truro, it should be the other way around. I did not want to get out of the water. I sat by a lovely lady on the coach and we went everywhere together, it was quite charming.

A 3star hotel , so didn't expect the world. It is an old building and lots of stairs and w1ndy corridors to contend with. However, the room was clean and comfortable, no frills. Could hear the TV and snoring from a neighbouring room, walls are obviously thin. The water glasses weren't changed for 3 days. Food was perfectly edible, with a reasonable choice for breakfast. The staff were definitely the best thing about this hotel, friendly and very helpful. The views out of the dining room were outstanding.

We went with a coach party on arrival we were greeted with 'were full up so you can't change your room'. Being of limited mobility we had asked for a walk in shower which we got, but also over thirty steps which would have been OK except four of them had no handrail, so I risked seriously injury when going up or down. The only response from management was there's nothing we can do. On a whole the staff apart from management were lovely. The hotel is situated in a lovely position. Great Seaview from our bedroom window. Love St Mawes as we used to go there every year sailing. Food excellent. Hotel clean and comfortable. But not good for people with disabilities.

The lovely staff at this higgldy piggldy very old hotel are out standing . Alan the barman was a fount of all knowledge . We stayed in 204 a bit up and down stairs to get to it but when you did it was a delightful fresh room a small bathroom but the peace and quiet was amazing . But to be fair all the staff couldn?t do enough for us we were a party of six . Two of us were poorly and they helped all they could to make us comfortable
