I had a consultation for laser eye surgery to correct my vision here at the truro branch. They fitted me in very quickly and i was thrilled that it would be so close to home. Up on arrival I was greeted by a lovely member of staff who advised that I would just have to wait a few minutes for the optometrist. After waiting half an hour past my appointment time he then walked in very casually eating an ice cream. After waiting another 15 minutes the receptionist then started to test my eyes. She informed me that she was a trainee and hadn?t been working there very long so I?d have to bear with her while she got the machines all set up and correct. Now I?m a patient person, I completely understand that we all have to learn but after having one very uncomfortable test done 3 times to get a correct reading you start to question whether she should be doing this unaccompanied. After the tests I then had to wait another 15 minutes to see the optometrist, who checked over my tests and checked my eyes over. He then quoted me over £5000 for a surgery that he couldn?t guarantee the surgeon would be happy to do but I could book in for surgery on a few weeks time and pay £500 deposit. After my visit to optical express I was HOUNDED from their sales team to book in. I received up to 4 calls a day from different people and on top of that we?re down right rude when I expressed that I was getting a second opinion.
Overall I found the optical express truro team to be highly unprofessional, pushy and rude.
In so glad I got a second opinion from a different company who quoted me over £2000 cheaper, we?re so much nicer and friendlier and who did my surgery quickly and where no question was a silly question. They also told me from the beginning that I could have lasIk surgery over lasek surgery which was cheaper and a faster recovery time, which optical express blatantly refused.

Having lense replacement with Optical Express was a brilliant experience resulting in me no longer needing glasses or contacts. The staff at both Truro (special call-out to Paul)and Exeter were fabulous . If you?re a bit dubious, don?t be. I?ve had no pain whatsoever.

Unfortunately I have had nothing but problems since having my lens replacement surgery 10 months ago, I have had recurring iritis so have been on eye drops for nearly all of the time since the surgery, my vision is ok for close up, but my distance is worse than before and I am suffering with glare and halos at night time to the point that I avoid driving at night if possible, any low light and my eyesight is out of focus, I?m hoping that will improve once I finally finish eye drops but am yet to know.

I?ve had the easiest journey with optical express, this includes from the very first phone call.
At the Truro office I was first met by the lovely Jess who was very friendly and efficient. Sarah and Paul then took me through all of the tests to ensure that I was suitable for the lens replacement surgery.
All info provided in a quick and simple manner and booking for surgery made within 3 weeks.
Excellent service!

Had the smoothest experience with Sarah in Truro helping me prepare for my surgery and couldn?t be happier with the results

Problems from the start. Still not sorted from May. Rang for help told I would need to pay for further assistance.
Have to wonder if I will have completed process within the year of starting the process. Don?t feel that as a member of the minority with problems that I?m being effectively being listened to
Had I known it was going to be like this would I have initiated the process?? ?

Amanda at head office was marvellous at getting me an appointment at short notice for which I was very grateful. Paul at your Truro branch was again very efficient and reassuring with my problem.

It was with excitement that I attended my consultation at Optical Express Truro, pleased to have recently discovered the possibility of eye surgery close to home and excited to start my laser journey. Unfortunately it all went downhill from there.
Right from the start I was not made to feel welcome.
The PA/consultant appeared to switch off at the point of realising that I would not be an easy sell.
The staff members in branch conducted themselves in an unprofessional manner, discussing other client's details in front of myself and others.
The staff were rude and completely contradicted each other. I was told by the Optometrist that in his option I would be suitable for LASIK, but because he was uncertain the surgeon would have to make the final decision - this sounded fair to me. I was then informed by the PA/consultant that in order to meet the surgeon to gain his opinion, I would have to commit to LASEK (a very different procedure with a much longer recovery time) and forfeit a £500 deposit if LASIK was not possible. When I questioned the absurdity of gambling £500 to find out if I'm suitable for a procedure I'm willing to go ahead with, I was met with a nonchalant attitude. Completely unprofessional conduct.
Besides being informed that I should not drive, I was not told what affect dilating drops would have on my eyes or how long this would last, prior to the drops being administered. Being advised to bring sunglasses would have been helpful.
The aim of the consultation for me was to feel better informed, instead I left feeling pressured and frustrated.
After replying ?yes? to a whatsapp message from Optical Express asking to chat about my experience, I have since had absolutely no reply.
Does this this reflect the etiquette of a company I?m willing to pay a substantial sum of money and more importantly trust with my most prized possession ? my eyesight? Certainly not.

I found the lady on the reception to be rude, condescending and patronising. She welcomed me as ?hello lovely?. She had never met me and does not know me. I had to ask her to stop calling me her lovely, which then resulted sitting in an atmosphere. I should not have been made to feel uncomfortable. The experience wasn?t a nice one.Saying that Paul was extremely professional.I won?t be returning and will take my custom elsewhere.

I cannot fault the service I received from the Truro branch of optical express. I was warmly received and the whole process of explaining, testing and consulting ensured I felt that I was a valued customer. I didn't feel pressured to go ahead with surgery, even though I was a suitable candidate, and the team were happy to leave my decision to a future date.
