Don?t bother
Made to feel most unwelcome
Then we wanted to order chips and gravy for my daughter but told can?t have this in the seated area! Absolute disgrace, no wonder it was empty.
So much other choice I?d suggest you use it!
Response to Owner?s Reply:
Your aggressive outburst here is exactly why your restaurant is rotting away at a pathetic 3.2 stars on Google ? rude, arrogant, and completely blind to the idea of customer service. Instead of handling criticism like a professional, you launched into childish insults and personal attacks. That isn?t strength, it?s insecurity. And it screams louder than any review ever could.
Let?s get one fact straight: I was prepared to spend over £50 on adult meals in your empty restaurant. All I asked for was a simple portion of chips and gravy for my daughter. A minor, reasonable request from a paying customer ? and your response was to sneer, refuse, and act like you were doing us a favor just letting us sit down. That?s not running a business, that?s running a power trip.
You talk about your ?restaurant? like it?s some fine-dining establishment. Newsflash: it?s a fish and chip shop. Nobody?s mistaking it for The Ritz. The arrogance of dictating what customers can and cannot order ? while your tables sit EMPTY ? is laughable. And judging by your attitude here, I now understand why nobody?s lining up to fill those seats.
The truth is simple: customers don?t owe you anything. We choose where to spend our money. The empty restaurant, the dismal 3.2 Google rating, and your unhinged response prove that plenty of people have already made their choice ? and it isn?t you.
Businesses that succeed value feedback and adapt. Businesses that fail attack their customers and blame ?entitled? people for daring to expect basic service. With this attitude, your decline isn?t bad luck ? it?s inevitable.

We have been visiting Perranporth for over 30 years as we have a holiday home here, and for most of that time Pickwicks was always our first choice for fish and chips. It had a well-earned reputation for being hands down the best in town. A few years ago when ownership changed we started seeing a number of negative comments on social media about poor service and food quality. Regrettably we believed what we read and stopped going, choosing instead to visit one of the other chip shops in the town.
Today we decided to give Pickwicks another chance after trying the competition the previous week, and what a difference it turned out to be. We each ordered a large cod and chips to take away, and when we got home, unpacked and plated up, we were happily surprised by what greeted us. The portions were extremely generous, with the cod easily three times the size of what we were served elsewhere. The fillets were thick, chunky and succulent with a beautifully crisp and light batter. The chips were equally impressive, golden and fluffy inside, and some of the best I have had in years.
The service itself was excellent. Friendly, professional and quick. Yes, we had to wait a short while for the fish to be freshly cooked, but that only added to the quality and made it clear everything was prepared to order.
What really sets Pickwicks apart is that everything is fried in traditional beef dripping, giving both the fish and the chips a rich depth of flavour and an authentic edge that most modern shops have long since lost. That traditional touch is something special and it elevates the whole experience.
This visit reminded us exactly why Pickwicks was always the benchmark for fish and chips in Perranporth. It goes to show you cannot always believe what you read on the internet. We will definitely be returning regularly and would highly recommend Pickwicks to anyone wanting proper, traditional fish and chips at their very best.
Five stars without hesitation.

Really small portion, if hungry dont go there. I ordered a potion of chips and it was flat flush with the top of Tray. Those who like fish and chips will understand that not a lot.

Went in about 5:50 asked for a table for 7 people, we was waiting on two people. The lady asked how long our other party was going to be we said just a couple of minutes and she continued to say our restaurant closes in 5 minutes. I said okay but why have you sat us down if you close in 5 minutes, I continued to say ok we will find somewhere else as you clearly want to rush us to leave your restaurant didn?t even offer a takeaway even though they do takeaway. So we walked out and the owner (I?m assuming) said ?your silly? so I said why am I silly for walking out of your restaurant, if you closed within the 5 minutes of us walking in why sit us down and not tell us you was closing.
Place was filthy, very outdated. Expensive to eat in much cheaper to take out.

When we arrived we were told to wait for an indoor seat, even though that there were plenty of spaces to sit. The place seemed very understaffed and disorganised. There was a lady taking in all the orders and was very clearly rushed off her feet and tired. She looked to be the only person actually doing anything compared to the man. He needs to be helping. The place was outdated, and the toilets, based on other reviews, are always out of order.
I do understand the difficulties of owning and maintaining places like this and thank everyone who was involved in making our meal.
Also when I was looking at the reviews, the boss was answering in a very unkind manner. Not the type of image I would want to be portraying.
On the other hand, the food was very high-quality and was worth the wait. The prices are a little high and could do with lowering.
Overall, it was a good place to dine in for dinner but they need to work on better staff and a better image that people will see.

Ordered 6 x cod and chips, plus fishcakes and chips x 2.
Got home back to St Agnes and 1 x cod missing from the box.

Great to see a chippy using beef dripping as it made the food delish?

It wasn't busy at all but still told they are not serving half the menu, They can only do us a large fish and chips, gravy was like water, large sausage was OK but for that and 2 cans of coke £24 complete rip off- go elsewhere

During our holiday, we arrived around 5 PM after a long drive and were looking for something quick and tasty. Unfortunately, the fish and chips we had were the worst we've ever experienced. If you decide to visit, you will likely be disappointed. The fish was terrible, the chips were extremely soggy, and everything had an old, greasy taste. The sausage tasted like the cheapest option available. On a positive note, the chicken nuggets we ordered for a child were actually decent. Additionally, the ordering and queuing process was chaotic.

Chips were some of the best I've ever had, fish was lovely and moist. Great service. 7 entered and left 7 clean plates.

8 of us had fish and chips and we were served quickly. All staff very polite. Fish and chips delicious. Chips were fresh (best chips we've had) and the fish was lovely. We were even treated to try a new sauce to accompany our fish which waw a special touch. Lovely finish to our holiday together. Thank you ?

Over £40 for 3 breakfasts and drinks. Toast came covered in old tomato juice despite nobody ordering tomatoes. Charged over £3 for what was clearly sweetened instant latte powder ? my wife hates sweet coffee and couldn?t drink it. Food had black burnt bits throughout, clearly from a dirty griddle. Poor value and poor hygiene.

Went in there with my parents on a fairly quiet rainy evening, but they still let us sit inside. So, firstly the food was very enjoyable, secondly the staff there were very friendly and made us feel extremely welcome. Would happily come back!

Avoid at all cost, paid £44 for 3 people, my meal was gammon egg and chips, the gammon was like rubber, even though when handed the plate was told this was a new knife, which still couldn't cut through, had about 2 bites, felt to me like been warmed in a microwave, egg was very dry, chips a lot to be desired. My other 2 family members had battered sausage and chips, which the battered sausage was overcooked and dry on the outside and under cooked inside. Our drinks were served on what I can only describe as a black mouldy tray that looked like it hadn't been washed for years. Very over priced, would not recommend, the place needs a revamp and a lesson in cooking fresh food.

Worst chips ever. Covered in black bits. Very rude staff we asked nicely for plenty of salt and vinegar and to have them open. The guy serving wrapped them up. The little guy was very rude when we asked for more vinegar. My husband said he asked the server for plenty of vinegar his answer was so what. Never will we return and the reply was as pathetic as the little man. Don?t worry we would not come back. Like others have said your attitude is very arrogant and rude.
