Sad to say we had a pretty disappointing experience here recently. After having a fantastic experience for a wedding present two years ago, we returned fully excited! It wasn't a great start when we arrived and were greeted by a some what lack luster attitude from a member of staff. We were then seated with an apology and told that they'd just spotted in the morning that one of us was vegetarian, despite having booked in advance. We couldn't fault the entrée and starters, however the main for the veggie was basically braised (very bitter burnt) cabbage in a thin soup with some beans, and quite honestly clearly an after thought. The Dexter beef also came with soup and beans which tasted much better than the veggie alternative however the dish was incompatible with the sides. Both the delicious tomato salad and the garden salad with ranch dressing ended up swimming in the soup. Must have been an omen for our dessert because the ice cream also came out almost running out of the bowl... perhaps a casualty of being one of the last sittings. We felt that it was very poor value for our money and such a huge shame after such a wonderful experience the first time. Probably won't be returning again

Came for dinner, it was superb, both for us and our vegan daughter. Service fantastic, ambience great, well worth a bisit

On the second day after my arrival I said to my friends: if you want to give me a great gift, allow me to work here on the farm for 3 months, for free, just to see and learn how they live and work with, for and from nature! Work in and for the nature!
But as a guest: feel in paradise!
The winding road finally leads us to the farm / hotel. A young, easy-going gentleman comes up to us and kindly asks if we would like to check in. He leads us to the main house, where he first introduces us to the lower floor.
Here we find a large, cosy living room with a fireplace, a library with a bar full of local curiosities, a games room with a large table and finally a kitchen where we can brew ourselves some tea or coffee.
Then the rooms ... just perfectly cosy and elegant all in one. Technically well equipped but even more important are the many small details to discover.
The view of the green through the windows and the music of the birds in the morning let yourself go smooth.
A first walk around the farm, the surrounding countryside and the garden reveals an overwhelming array of greenery and wildlife. I think the city gardener would have a heart attack when he sees this perceived chaos in the garden beds, but a closer look reveals an extraordinarily modern, nature-orientated concept and thus an incredibly rich result of synergies. In the deep grass, lively chickens poke their heads out curiously and you can hear a contented grunt from the forest. I almost had to laugh when I discovered the pigs digging for roots with their permanent curl-like bristles between the trees. Old, very old oaks and modern solar cell fields provide a respectful contrast.
But it was the dinner in the evening, including the English wine, that made us realise the true richness of this place. A variety that you could only guess at on the tour the day before, and this modern and creatively realised. I can't go into all the details that we enjoyed ... you just have to experience it for yourself. A kitchen, on the one hand casual and on the other hand the best and most sophisticated for a long time. Talking to a chef in the garden the next day taught me another lesson ...they know their job!
By the way: breakfast and bread ...the good things just keep on coming.
As I said, I would love to be an apprentice here!

Fantastic food, I ordered a Christmas hamper which had a delivery issue through no fault of their own. Tom from Coombeshead arranged a replacement box straight away and it was the best charcuterie products we have ever tasted. The Mangalitza pate and apple jelly on the sourdough was a particular highlight. Will definitely order again

Stayed at coombeshead farm for the food - the butter was incredible, I?ve never seen such yellow butter. We had breakfast two mornings and dinner one night and considered staying another to eat more of the food last minute but the weather made us reconsider.
The house is very nice, I saw you can rent it out in its entirety which makes sense why it has such a generous living area- multiple lounges and a big kitchen. The are the farm is in is nice- Cornish countryside, nearer to Dartmoor than a lot of Cornwall.
Main thing I would improve is the bathroom- we stayed in room 2 and there was quite a bit of mould in the bathroom, and maybe upgrading the shower amenities. I don?t mean get a super expensive brand of soap, but for this sort of price you would expect to eg have a separate shower gel and shampoo.

What an absolutely magical place to stay.
The room was beautiful, the surroundings were so peaceful. The highlight was of course the food! Most of what we ate was grown, reared, baked and made on site and all of it was exceptional. Fantastic service, every member of staff was friendly and professional and clearly very experienced.
Can't wait to head back for another stay soon

We live locally to Coombeshead & buy our sourdough bread & fresh chicken from the farm. We also enjoy a meal at the farm every now & then. The dedication and care of all of the team shines through in everything they do. The most delicious chicken, wonderful pork & charcuterie & the best sourdough- well done & thank you for taking such good care of the land & your animals ?
