Called into this lovely old pub, full of character for a late lunch after a big walk with my dog. Was made welcome by the bar maid who took my food and drink order. I chose the chowder, which came with warm bread and butter. I was given a large bowl serving, hot, creamy and nicely seasoned for my taste. Generous chunks of fish and small prawns. It was exactly what I wanted. Chatting to other customers, they had enjoyed their meals and I saw some tasty looking dishes go by. Nice food and drinks selection on offer.

2 stars because beer was good. -3stars because food and service awful. Seafood chowder watery and obviously made with frozen bag of prawns and cod. Tasted like a thin soup. Partners fish n chips...the fish undercooked and slimy. But perhaps worst was the absolute lack of interest from the lady behind the bar...shocking service. No wonder the place was empty. Avoid.

Had a lovely evening and the drinks were less expensive than across the road. It's not as easy to upload my videos in the Lugger as it is in the GALLEON

We have had some fantastic meals in the Lugger in the past. We were warned not to expect the large portion of fish stew. So my husband ordered it but the sauce tasted of tomato soup, which was so disappointing. My fish pie was fish flavoured potatoes. I found a few overcooked shrimp in among the potatoes. The lady was lovely and offered to take it back to he kitchen but I was in a hurry and didn?t have time for someone to cook a proper fish pie. The bowl was small so it would have been so easy to put a few bits of fish in the pie. Will not be going back.

Not sure about the rooms, but everything about this pub is top. Local St Austell Brewery beer and great cuisine.
