My sister and I decided to pop in for coffee and cake after a visit to Quarry Bank. We arrived around 3pm, selected our cakes by self service and ordered our coffee. The young girl behind the counter didn't seem that pleased to be there and was quite abrupt. We paid £12.80 and decided to sit outside at the back.
At 3:19pm a different young girl came over and said that they needed the plates to clean up ! We asked what time they closed and she said 3:30pm, we hadn't taken any notice of the closing time when we arrived and nothing was mentioned when we ordered that they were due to close in less than 30 minutes.
We said ok, but she actually stood at the side of me and waited for me to finish eating my cake !! We couldn't believe it !! I ate it quickly, as I was in shock and felt very uncomfortable.
We had not finished our coffee at this point, but as they were in paper cups there didn't appear to be the same urgency for those as the plates.
At 3:23pm another lady came to the door and stared at us, which to be honest made us more determined to take our time finishing our drinks especially after the plate incident.
A man then came out and started sanding down the railings behind us !!
I understand this establishment is run by volunteers, but they shouldn't volunteer if they are appalling at Customer Service and have no idea how to be polite and respectful to customers.
They were quick enough to take our money, no matter what time it was but then were not prepared to let us enjoy the experience.
I can see from other reviews that people have had similar experiences, such a shame as it is in a nice spot but we will not return after this experience.

Such a shame that this place has the worst customer service ever! I have never come across a place that is so unfriendly but yet has so much potential. A smile and welcome goes a long way. Just a word of warning, do not arrive at 902am when they open at 9am as goes down like a lead balloon!! Ended up at The Tapas place across the road and was great! Gorgeous coffee!

My 75yr old sister who has been a volunteer at Earlems for the past 4yrs notified them that she would be leaving at the end of the month, but may come back again in the winter, all being well. The manager who was in at the time, disappeared off and didn?t even say goodbye or give a thankyou for the years she helped. I find this appalling and needless to say urged my sister to never go back and give her spare time to such a dreadful set up.

Reasonably priced tea and coffee. Good selection of cakes. Close to the National Trust property. Staff unfriendly. I only drink soya or lactose free milk and was told two
Portions (20p each) of UHT soya milk are good enough for most people (I'll decide how much milk I use!)

Good cafe with a safe, super area of grassland adjacent to the cafe for younger children.
As a retiree, the seating area in the cabin and community cafe was perfect for me. The scones were great.
Very reasonable prices.
Wheelchair accessibility: In the cafe area and outside seating.

Amazing little coffee - community place that is not about great food or great coffee. Group of volunteers are selling consumer goods made by local artists and local inhabitants. You can by beautiful cards, pottery, sweets, even alcohol or other small things while in another part of shop is a little coffee place. Cakes are too sweet and let's say - very average, coffee the same and panini - you can't go wrong with them, but the atmosphere and purpose of this place is just right. I wish you a good luck and thanks for your contribution to society.

Went for a private chat, couldn't talk to my friend as staff conversations took over the whole room. We were asked if we wanted hot water for our tea and then CHARGED for it!!!
