Went for a mid week pub lunch. Really interesting building, really friendly staff and really delicious food! Would really recommend! We had the Headmaster's toasted steak sandwich and the Wagyu beef burger.

Great place to eat. Good selection of beers and gin. Very characterful rooms in the old headmaster's house.

A bit of a strange experience really. First if all the place was freezing cold. No one I could see who didn't have a coat on. I had parked in a space that had no signs or restrictions on it and I was asked to move it for the binmen. Whilst I was away, they plonked my food on the table to go cold. I personally would have put a couple of cones in the space on bin day rather than ask one of my customers to get up and move their car. In these particular circumstances however I would maybe at least have asked the kitchen to keep the food warm while I was moving my car.Food was pretty average and not very hot unfortunately. A couple of ingredients also seemed to be missing. It's a quirky interesting place but it felt like they were relying on this to earn their stars rather than giving a bit more thought to the experience their customers are having.

Great use of the old school house with sympathetic interior design. The gin display is grand. Very pleased to see local real ales and all kept well. I felt the Sunday roast was underwhelming for the price. The place is busy, which is good for conviviality and yes I would visit again if in the area.Noteworthy details: Convivial and interesting venue.

Took my wife and daughter out for a meal as it was my wife's birthday. My meal of steak pie chips and mushy peas was presented to me with partially frozen mushy peas, so I declined, initially sending it back for a replacement. But as my wife and daughter had no choice but to start eating theirs, I would have been eating alone by the time mine was properly cooked. So I had nothing to eat. A really memorable birthday meal.Running a local Airbnb we have in the past probably sent over 300 guests to the Chum, but I will now not be recommending.I would not want to send guests to repeat my experience. Two questions are raised. Why use frozen mushy peas?Who is checking quality. Certainly not the two waitresses who served us but were more interested in a personal conversation. It was a very disappointing ruined evening that I won't forget in a long time and I certainly won't be eating there again, unfortunately.
