Lovely place for midweek lunch ?on our trip to Chester -just one concern is that the corridor where the entrance to the toilets are stunk of wee?

The food is nice, I have eaten here a couple of times. However the clientele that the pub attracts as of recent truly lets the place down. It?s basically a congregation of drunk sweaty groups of men crowding up the pavement by the canal. Honestly could be lovely but it stinks of beer and vomit outside.

We went there for my birthday Monday evening. What a great atmosphere, staff were very friendly and attentive and we felt immediately comfortable. We had not booked but it was no problem and we were given a very nice table. The food was excellent and very very tasty. Beers and wines we had were good quality and well kept. A very memorable birthday night out.

Quality pub and restaurant. Superb selection of well kept real ale. I had the Cheshire Cat bitter which is a lovely pint. They were doing a ?pie week? and what a menu that was - absolutely delicious. Needs to be on more than once a year it?s so good. A very well kept place. Bar man / owner had been there 12 years.

The Old Harkers Arms in Chester is probably the best pub in the World!
Scenically placed by the canal, with great food but it's the staff that really make it. They literally can't do enough for you, always welcoming and attentive.
I started going about a year ago and now travel to Chester every week just to visit this pub. I don't know how they maintain such a level of service across all staff members but I'm never disappointed.
Special shout out to Mark who, having finished his shift, with coat on and half way out the door, spotted my nearly empty glass and came back in to pour and deliver me another pint before he left!
I tell all the Uber drivers that take & fetch me about how good it is and they always agree it's got a great reputation!

Nice canal side location.
Busy on a Saturday afternoon.
Quite expensive.
Didn't eat but the food looked good.
Staff attentive.
"No energy drink" policy which I admire and am frustrated by in almost equal measure.
Will go back, but not in a rush to do so.

Enjoyable pint, good selection of ales. Was nice to sit outside by the water. Did not try the food but prices looked reasonable.
