Had the home made traybake which was really nice. Ordered a cream cheese and salmon bagel, was told at the til there was no cream cheese, but ordered to bagel without anyway. After half an hour since the time on the receipt we still had no bagel so went up to the till to ask about it to be then told the ticket was thrown away so it never got made. Staff apologised and we continued to wait. Then a staff member came to tell us that they had actually ran out of bagels an offered us alternative or refund, we chose the refund as by now the rest of the group had finished their food and drinks. They could have gone to the m&s food hall for some to tide them over for the day, or tell people its not available. One waitress in particular was quite curt with us on a number of occassions (for example when we needed tea spoons for the hot drinks, or when she came to the table 3 times to say "just waiting for the bagel". A nice tucked away cosy cafe, staff (bar one) was friendly and the cakes very nice.

We stopped for a coffee in the basement cafe and feeling peckish decided to have the afternoon tea which was priced at £7.50. It included 2 egg and cress sandwiches, 2 ham and mustard sandwiches, a large scone with jam and cream, lemon cake, millionaires shortcake and a macaroon, all of which were fresh and delicious and we even got a 10% discount using our Debenhams card. We had one each but there would have been more than enough if we had had one to share. Highly recommended!

Great Staff but the breakfast was really cold. We chose 8 items offered but by the time we had paid for the breakfast it was cold. We sat at a table but ended up leaving the cold breakfast and walking out rather than complaining. It is not the fault of the staff but the fault lies in serving food on a cold plate and the time it takes for customers to stand in line to pay at the checkout till.

Popped into the 3rd floor restaurant today for some lunch with my partner. Great panoramic views and nice surroundings in the restaurant with the art work on the walls. Food was very nice especially the scones and we received very friendly service from Sue, Scott and Andy (the Manager). They?re a very friendly bunch in her and nothing is too much trouble. If it?s not a hot meal your after the cafe on the lower ground floor is simply stunning also.

Popped in for a quick cup of coffee as I was in the store. Not only were the prices very competitive but I found the staff charming, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely return, perhaps next time for more than a drink.

Out shopping in Chester, decided to give Debenhams Cafe a try, big mistake! It was well after 12noon, made my way to servery, young girl serving was multi tasking, two other staff nearby were also multi tasking, so waited patiently. Ordrered Harry Ramsden Fish & Chips, for hubby, I choose Macaroni Cheese. The hot food was already on counter, including two small battered fish, that looked nothing like the advertised photo for the meal, on the poster on the wall. ( I thought these fish were for children's meals!) I ordered the meals, food was served on a hot plate, good start. Staff put fish, around 10 chips, that were in the bottom of a large bowl, obviously been there for a while, and mushy peas. My meal wasa small dish of macaroni, covered in runny white sauce, not even been browned on top, was served with roast potatoes (frozen) , and carrots (frozen) There was not staff on tills , so you had to queue in the drinks queue to pay for meals, I was the only customer waiting in queue who had hot meals, three staff, one doing coffees, two attempting to put a bag of milk in the milk machine, still waiting, then only serving staff goes to get another customer a glass of water. Staff disappear and the queue is still waiting. Eventually got served. Meals were both cold, fish looked just about cooked, soggy batter, cold.Chips cold and mushy peas were just about warm. My meal cold carrots and just about warm, hard roast potatoes. Took meals back, staff said she would check meals with probe! She did and confirmed they were just warm (clearly they we're cold) Fish was certainly not cooked properly, which is dangerous! Staff replaced the fish & chips, and offered to replace carrots. Made you feel like you were being difficult, she replaced the carrots. By this time, I no longer cared about the meal, the macaroni was just about edible, in the runny white sauce, the replaced Carrots were just about warm and undercooked. hubby ended up waiting another 20mins for his meal, which was hot. To be honest, took the edge off actually enjoying the experience of a visit to the cafe. Meal cost £17, most of it went in to the bin, awful experience, inedible and cold food, staff using probes on food to see if your food IS actually cold! Are you then supposed to argue over it being cold! Waste of money. First and last time we eat there.

We called in for a drink & scones whilst shopping in Chester. Very nice cafe with good cakes & drinks. The scones were very nice & pots of tea were good value.

Have not been to the store for a few years. Disappointed - looks tired and the merchandise seems to have gone downmarket.

This cafe is very nice to look at, it looks like an old fashioned stone church with very high ceilings. It offers teas coffees cakes, sandwiches, salads, afternoon tea, soup etc. We waited 55 minutes for a salad and a sandwich. We paid £22 for it and the portion was small, the chicken from the salad was chewy and tasteless. I would not return

Having been let down by our hotel we headed into Chester. Decided to go to Debenhams for a snack and noticed they had afternoon tea. Found this to be excellent value £14.95 for two. This consisted on ham and mustard, egg and watercress sandwiches, plain and a fruit scone with clotted cream and jam and lemon drizzle cake and caramel square with tea. Only let down was the caramel square was overly sweet. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for afternoon tea.

Found the food very disappointing used to be of a good quality but for some reason it wasn?t and hasn?t been very good for a while made a complaint about my granddaughters food which was a different meal to ours that she had wanted, all we got off the staff was a forced apology and a refund of the price of meal, it was as if they couldn?t be bothered. I review a lot of places in Chester and this one was very disappointing. Feel nobody here very interested in giving you good service.

We were in Chester for a Friday wander.. We were in Browns and decided we needed a drink and bite to eat, breakfast in the basement with vaulted ceilings at Browns. Sausage Toastie and Scrambled Eggs on Toast along with two Lattes. It was served with a smile and was very tasty. Impressed with breakfast at Browns.

The cafe is set in what appears to be a vaulted cellar beneath the building. Fast table service and decent coffee. Staff in the shop, especially the Clinique section, were excellent.

Finding this cafe from inside Debenhams store wasn't that easy. The store seems badly organised and this was even more true of the cafe when we found it. Entering the cafe from the store makes you realise what an historic building Debenhams store is in. The waiter showed us to a table in an almost empty cafe but then took ages to come to take our order. It wasn't that he wasn't running round looking like he was in a hurry - it was just that he didn't seem capable of serving one table in less that 20 minutes. The food and coffee were equally disappointing so the initial pleasure of the historic undercroft was no compensation for the poorly run cafe.
