Just dropped a number of bags off at the Saltney store and was greeted by the most rude and unappreciative member of staff. She was dismissive, offensive and completely the opposite of how someone working in a charity shop should be. Unfortunately this is not the first time we have encountered her rudeness and by looking at other reviews she has been the same to others.
It is sad when the other staff are working so hard and are so welcoming. We fully appreciate you may not be able to accept certain items at times due to lots of donations but there is kind and grateful ways to explain this.
Having had my bags searched through and being made to feel like a huge inconvenience we left feeling really deflated. Please do make sure she is spoken to as she is clearly letting the store down.

Dropped some clothes off today and there was a nice young man on the till was really grateful and thanked me even though I could see he was clearly very busy because I could see no other staff members around.

I felt compelled to share a disappointing experience I had yesterday (Monday) while donating to the Barnardo?s charity shop in Saltney ? a visit that, sadly, left me questioning whether I would donate again.
Despite currently undergoing treatment for cancer ? a cause I usually support through donations ? I made a conscious decision to extend my generosity to Barnardo?s, hoping to support another worthy cause. After a major clear-out at home and with a new mindset of reducing clutter, I packed a large box containing nine brand-new dresses (with tags still attached) from reputable brands such as Next, M&S, Oasis, and Monsoon. Alongside this were high-quality home items, many of which were new or in excellent condition, and a separate box filled with pristine, like-new books.
I was genuinely proud to hand over these items, knowing they could help raise funds for children in need. However, the experience I had upon arriving at the Saltney store was both upsetting and disheartening.
I approached the reception area and politely explained that I had two boxes to donate. Rather than being met with a warm welcome or appreciation, the staff member appeared indifferent and dismissive. In front of others, she rummaged through the carefully folded clothes ? one of which ended up on the floor with its new tag exposed. I picked it up myself and placed it back in the box. Her only comment was, ?Is everything clean and in good condition?? to which I responded that everything was either new or like new. Her reply was a flat ?OK? before she turned away, offering no further interaction, gratitude, or acknowledgment.
There was no thank you. No smile. No appreciation. Just cold indifference.
To make matters worse, a passerby who witnessed the exchange approached me afterward and expressed their own disgust at the staff member?s attitude ? which only confirmed my feelings.
It was a stark reminder that while the public may give generously, the actions and attitudes of those representing a charity can deeply affect whether people feel encouraged to do so again. If such dismissiveness discourages other donors as it has me, where would that leave your charity in the long run?
I truly hope this feedback is taken seriously, as I believe in the importance of supporting good causes. But that support must be met with basic courtesy and respect ? not only for the items donated, but for the people giving them.

Phoned the Saltney shop a few days in advance to check I could drop off clothes and answer was 'yes, thank you'. What a different response when I went there today. I had about 8 bags (some only a third full), and was told abruptly that they would only take 5 bags. I said I'd take the small bags back and bring in the large bags as the back seat of my car was full, and having driven 25 miles to take the clothes there, didn't want to take them all home. I filled up the larger bags with clothes out of one of the smaller bags. When I took them in the very rude assistant said 'Have you just filled those bags up?' I said yes, just put a few pairs of jeans out of the other bag in them to fill them up. At this point I'd taken 4 bags in. Because I'd added the contents of 1 bag to 2 others, she said, no more, that's 5 bags! Unbelievably RUDE and ungrateful. Not a mention of 'thank you'. I was so tempted to just take everything back out of the shop. I took the couple of bags I had left to the Roy Castle shop next door.... Lovely lady there, smiled and even said thank you. Barnados.....Whoever I had the misfortune to deal with in your Saltney shop today, you seriously need to alter your attitude. I for one will never donate there again.

My husband and I shopped here last week. We bought some big paintings and today I bought some vases. My bag got torn and thank you for helping me. We all saw what was inside, no surprise for me but it must have been for you :)
I know the person who will spend money, but it is not a suitable store for an experienced person because it does not know its customers. Great products, thank you, I have at least 10 products in my house, but poor customer recognition

Phoned beforehand to make sure they were taking donations, dropped them off within the hour. Staff were nice and it was very easy to donate, no limit to how much we could take in.

I went to drop off many clothes today to Barnardo's Saltney. Rude and not helpful attitude from employees. I won't be droping off clothes here again.

I went to drop off many bags of clothes today to Barnardo's. I had to get the attention of the assistant as she turned away when I was waiting at the desk and explained how I had 8+ bags of clothes. She immediately said no, we can only take 5. I brought in 5 and then asked where I could drop off the rest. Another assistant came over and asked me how many I brought in. I replied 5, and she snapped at me saying they won't take anymore and I said I know, I was asking where else I can drop it off. Both of their attitudes were appalling and I wish I could have taken the clothes back. They did not smile, they did not say thank you and the whole experience was negative. I won't be dropping off clothes here again.

What a bad experience. Had two bags of clothes and shoes which were in good condition and will bring a good amount of money into the shop. I walked up to the till and smiled at the lady behind it, who rudely pointed to a box and grunted ?there.? No hello, no smile, not even a thank you. I?ve previously donated to many charity shops and it?s always been clear that they appreciate it, this place however is the complete opposite. Donate elsewhere where you won?t be treated so poorly.

Love this little shop for bargains that are reasonably priced to keep the stuff from becoming stale on the shelves and making money for Barnado's

Rang to ask if I could donate items that day. Was told I could. Carried in 4 small boxes. Was on my way out to fetch the rest of the donation when a shop assistant shouted that's enough, no more. I was made to feel very uncomfortable in front of everyone and it was like I was doing some thing wrong. Will never donate here again

Don't waste your time trying to donate. I rang them to ask if they were accepting donations and could I bring two bags - they told me yes. Drove there within the hour and when I walked in with my bags they said they were not taking donations. A completely wasted journey and they misled me on the phone. If they were nearly full with donated items, they could have easily warned me when I rang.

Rang Upton branch to donate, they told me to go to Saltney. Went to Saltney and they told me they don?t take donations after 2:30pm (it was only 3pm). You?re a charity shop, do you want people to donate or not? ????? Loaded items into the car and drove half way across the city for nothing. I?ll donate elsewhere next time.
