The staff were friendly and accommodating and the evening meal and both breakfasts were delicious.The bathroom was nicely done with good quality towels. Great to have parking on-site.Room for improvement:I found the bed very hard.It was a good sized room with high ceilings and the oil filled heater wasn't really sufficient without the radiator. When we asked for the radiator to be switched on it was great but we had to keep asking. With frost outside and no central heating early morning the room was very cold. It affected our enjoyment of our stay. Luckily there was a heated towel rail in the bathroom.The constant traffic noise from the small hours was not conducive to sleep. Admittedly beyond the hotel control but maybe secondary double glazing could be fitted?Others have commented about the tired decor which was a weird mixture of opulence plus lots of chipped paintwork, even in the restaurant loos, which were otherwise very nicely presented! Really bizarre. Maybe it's the current look?The room was a bit dusty, like someone had made the beds before dusting. Bedding was clean though with mattress and pillow protectors.

The hotel section was very tired in a need of a complete renovation to bring it up to date, which was very surprising for the area. There was an outside party venue right outside the room that was incredibly loud and we were unable to sleep.This continued until around midnight and was not mentioned at the time of booking.We twice requested a king size bed but had 2 single beds pushed together creating an uncomfortable gap down the middle.

The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. Prehaps a little tired, in decore in some places. But a comfortable, warm place.Rooms: A very comfortable, quiet place.Nearby activities: We visited Quarry Bank, national trust. A very interesting place.Food & drinks: Good was very good.

All good except room was really cold on my 2nd stay. The room is quite spacious and one of the radiators weren?t working so an electric heater was on but didn?t do much at all as the space is too big. I was in room 5 last time and didn?t have any issues with the temp (although that was last month so it wasn?t as cold outside). Last time I was £110 for one night, this time £150. Personally, I think £110 is the more fair and accurate price for a one night stay at this hotel.

Very well located, comfortable and clean. Largue free parking.As lighting improvement points. for access to the closet a little scarce. Rest of room lighting you could not choose individual lamps. They all turned on at the same time or all turned off at the same time.The breakfast waitress was very friendly, attentive and pleasant.Food & drinks: Good breakfast

Lovely hotel in a quiet location. Very welcoming staff and decor. Lunch was excellent. Room was large with a large bed, andgood bathroom.Rooms: Large room, fairly basic with a large bed and a great bathroom. Exactly what we needed.Food & drinks: Wonderful, freshly cooked food and good wine.

We?ve stayed here before and really enjoyed it hence our return but this time the room we were given was incredibly noisy. Directly above the kitchen fans, the room windows were frosted and throughout the early hours of the money continuous door banging outsideSuch a shameWalkability: Only a 10 mins walk into Alderley Edge

Another excellent experience at the Merlin. Food was excellent and service faultless. Great atmosphere lots of people inside and out all enjoying themselves by the sound of it. This was about the third or fourth meal we?ve had there and all have been great.

Stayed for a Saturday night at a price of £161 00 the picture was a large spacious room. What I got was room 6 which is tiny compared to the room was book on. Complained but the hotel was full. All rooms are the same price. The breakfast and the staff were great but make sure you don't get room 6.

The food is excellent as well as the service we received from all the staff. Our room was spacious and tastefully decorated. Our bathroom was disappointing due to a mouldy shower, off putting. The room itself was quite dusty, again disappointing as the bed was very comfortable and we loved our stay otherwise.
