Had a wonderful roast dinner on Sunday! Food was cooked to perfection, especially the parsnips and the beef! Service was great and attentive.I highly recommend booking yourself in! 10/10 would recommend!

This was my first visit to The Royal Oak and it sure does not disappoint. The food was delicious, especially the Steak & Ale pie, and caramel apple pie for desert. It sure is worth a visit. We ate in the restaurant, which is quieter than in the bar. I definitely will be back....

Booked for 2.00pm (there are two sittings 12.30 and 2.00). Asked to wait (or eat) in bar as table not ready. Taken to table at 2.35. GOOD Meat roast loin of pork excellent ? good quality supplier, cooked well. 9/10 Parsnips ? well cooked, freshly done 9/10 Service 9/10 POOR Frozen peas, corn, cauliflower, mashed potato and (I hope I am wrong), out of a packet). All tasteless. 2/10 Tinned, tasteless carrots (in a restaurant on the edge of the Black-fen carrot-growing centre of the world!) 1/10 Pudding: apple & rhubarb crumble. Tasted of cheap fat (butter substitute?). Apple seemed not freshly done (although fruit in season), rhubarb scanty & green. Ice cream OK. 4/10 COST £15.95 main course, £5.75 pudding Total £21.70 ? expensive for the quality Average 4/10 SUGGESTION Please buy and prepare fresh seasonal vegetables - cabbage, leek, broccoli, carrot, parsnip, potatoes - ditch the tins & packets. Many lunch clubs look for good pub food. I belong to seven but could not recommend this place ? unless big improvements are made.

The sort of proper local pub you wished you were within walking distance too. Great beers, food including vegan options and lovely Landlord / LandladyDietary restrictions: Vegan options

I've just experienced the best steak and ale pie I've ever had, and I've eaten a lot. Made fresh on the premises by the landlady, it was the closest to a Desperate Dan cow pie I've come across. Highly recommended. Other than that, it has all the virtues of an uncomplicated local pub. Warm and welcoming ambience, warm and welcoming landlady, landlord and staff, and friendly locals too. They've definitely not seen the last of me!
