I was admitted on Friday 8th March with Pneumonia. The ambulance staff were brilliant, & The A&E staff were attentive all be it under staffed with confusion between colleagues sometimes. After some time I was sent to the assessment unit where I remained for sometime due to a bed shortage. On finally being allocated a bed in Elm ward early evening, I had to be moved once again to a different bay ( bay 2) due to a lack of oxygen feed which I needed in order to breath normally & safely. On arrival where I remained for a week, I quickly settled but it was obvious there was an extreme staff shortage with nurses being shared from other areas to cover our ward. There were continuous problems with lack of staff and the provision of meals, with the computer system crashing and menus issued incorrectly. I was missed completely the first day although managed to get a sandwich later on.The nursing staff on the other hand were dedicated & overworked so I tried to avoid calling them, even helping 2 patients where able with dementia that were often trying to leave their beds, pulling out drip tubes or spilling water, shouting etc etc ( one had 6 bed changes in a matter of hours). The staff worked tirelessly & the strain often showed, consequently routine IV drip feeds & medication was late being administered on several occasions (past midnight) due to incidents which occurred requiring several nurses to attend from leaving thier normal duties. Sleeping at night was often very difficult caused by such delays and events.Several nurses though went above & beyond their duty in particular Angelina (a Brazilian nurse) who was absolutely amazing even calming an aggressive patient, bringing a smile to the bay, nothing was too much trouble for her ( like others) So pass on my thanks to her.Being in hospital for a week certainly opened my eyes as the nurses were trying to do a professional job when clearly they are understaffed, often with trainees, not always having the necessary ability to give the full care required. In conclusion 95% of the nurses did a really good job a few were exceptional (Angelina) so full marks to them, but the management, staffing level & control needs a lot to be desired in my opinion hence only 3 stars. Even the wifi for family communication stopped working after just one evening with the alternative 4 weak network signal hit and miss at times to make clear calls .I would also suggest if possible to move high demand patients eg dementia etc to a single bay , to avoid sleep deprivation in other patients. I was lucky to achieve even 2 hours sleep on two consecutive nights.

Absolutely horrendous place which is falling to bits both structurally and medically, without doubt one of, if not THE worst hospital in the UK. Had a family member become severaly ill so called for an ambulance to be told a 12 hour wait so decided to drive them there ourselves only to be met with an A&E dept that stank of vomit due to bowls of vomit being left. I have never seen so many people in there some of which were sitting AND laying on the floor. Eventually after 18hrs they were moved onto a ward and that's where the fcukery commenced. Nobody seemed to know what was going on, kept getting different info from various doctors/staff, was also told that certain procedures/scans would happen and they didn't. The level of personal care given to our family member was disgusting, we had to constantly keep on at them to do the absolute basics like bathe and shave them. The food was nothing more than beige tepid stodge unpalatable and in need of a dire review. By this time the weight had literally started to fall off our relative and he was looking extremely Ill, it was almost like they couldn't be bothered with him and to us it felt like they had simply put him into storage! As a family we had to constantly keep pushing for anything to be done, even then you could never get a straight answer from them. They blamed staff shortages on not being able to do a certain procedure so carted our relative off to another hospital in Norwich for them to say he was too ill for it to be done so then at great expense he was transferred back to HMP QE Hospital. Eventually a small bit of progress was made after a heated discussion with staff, the meds were changed and on several occasions he was told he could come home but then spent another 2 weeks in there as they changed their minds again. This was causing mental torture to him being told one thing then another which all seemed like lie after lie after lie. FINALLY after 30 days in that hell hole he was finally discharged some 2 stone lighter and a shadow of his former self. This place really needs to be put back into special measures as its simply not fit for purpose, I really pity anyone who is unfortunate enough to be admitted here. Id give the place a zero if it was an option.

Joke of a place has to be the worst NHS hospital I have ever used, been in here since Sunday with gallstones, got told i needed an ultrasound porter never turned up so missed that, now been told I need a ct scan they can't give me an eta on this either, so just sat pondering what's going on got jaundice due to a gallstone blocking a tube, every day I'm here I'm not being paid this is why I don't like going to hospital they treat you like your in prison NHS is not what it used to be

Visited the children's part of the hospital last week. It was very good for small kids, but there was not much to do while waiting. If your child is anything above 6, I would say.The car park was a fair distance from the main hospital, so it could be a treak for some. Maybe there should be an electronic shuttle bus or something to take the elderly to the hospital. I feel this service is needed. While we waited we went to Costa coffee which is a nice addition to the hospital, it was nice to get away from the hospital feel despite still being within the actual hospital, there was two convenience shops competing with one another, that's a shame as I think one is ran my volunteers to rase money for the hospital. The service we had was okay, efficient and personal. My son came away happy and looked after.

Feeling very ill it was A&E for me. 6 hours in a pokey room. Must've been 30 of us in there. People being sick on the floor, no-one came round with sick hats, no-one asking how ill you really felt, 1 and a half hours to wait for blood results, no beds. No one to talk to about what's happening. All in all, terrible. The staff were wonderful, I feel sorry for them having to work there. I would've gone to Norwich but there was a 16 hour wait for an ambulance. Not a good experience at all.

Absolutely disgusting treatment. Unbelievably only 2 paediatric Doctors covering the entire hospital. Needless to say my 2 year old has spent 10 hours and STILL COUNTING today, in the so called Children?s Accident & ?EMERGENCY? WITHOUT ANY TREATMENT. She has been unable to take any food or fluids for 24 hours but this doesn't seem to be an issue for the staff. 1 staff member very rude and hopeless and the rest just hopeless. Why do I bother paying my TAXES, it?s an absolute SHAMBLES. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

The ENT team at QEH should genuinely be ashamed of themselves, for 8 years I've been going back and forth with them being told numerous things like "You'll live a normal life" and "You just need a hearing aid", the signs were obvious that I had Glue Ear (Otitis media with efusion), pressure behind my ear drum, tinnitus, feeling dizzy and off balance constantly, and they did NOTHING! So in the span of 3 days I consulted with a Specialist in London, got the treatment I needed (Myringotomy) for £450, and now I can hear out of my left ear again! THE ENT TEAM AT QEH WASTED 8 YEARS OF MY LIFE! Specialists? More like clowns!

Erlinda Heffer - a Tissue Viability Nurse of the QE Hospital? what can I say? I?m not usually the sort of person to name and shame but this shows the extensiveness of my frustration and disappointment in this person. Despite Doctor?s wishes, she would not visit me to examine my wound which has left me hospitalised for some time! The doctor handling my case requested that she visits me to do her duty and assess complex wounds, but blatantly refused and did not make any effort to see me (which is of great concern considering I am a high-risk immobile patient with an infected sore at risk of sepsis!) Disgraceful!Over the course of this ongoing problem (46 days in total), she has seen me twice! I?m sure if she was more attentive and did her job correctly, this problem would not be so prominent today!Additionally, the bed managers truly don?t care about patient welfare, they put dementia patients with surgical patients mixing medical and neurological patients. And proceed to admit patients to wards at 2am waking up other patients. I very much doubt they care about patient welfare.
