A very traditional and sympathetic building but there is more, a lot more. We stayed for a weekend after choosing somewhere south of us from Spalding. There was a lot to chose from obviously, but within an hour or so we settled on Chatteris as the crime rate looked low, looked promising as a hub to explore the Fenlands and its natural beauty of bird spots. We rang around and liked the sound of the cross keys, a very warm welcoming feeling flushed over us so we booked direct and it did not disappoint. The attention to details, the historical artefacts, the respect shown by everyone to each other was very moving. The room was immaculate, spotless and well stocked with condiments. We ate on both nights and the service was 10/10, the food equally so. We made the right choice! Speaking to what we now know as David and Rebecca, the owners we were enthralled to receive a guided tour of their function room and other rooms. A well in the floor, wow! Flagstones in the middle, swords and shields everywhere, it certainly captured our imagination. Where else could you stay in a magnificent 'palace' like this at these prices? It was like Hampton Court. The Wi-Fi in the room was exceptionally fast as we understand a previous resident had ripped out the RJ11 cable whatever that meant but David certainly knew his technical stuff. We felt very, very safe with all the CCTV cameras around and how all the regulars looked after each other - even leaving their wallets and cigarettes on the bar as everyone knew it was perfectly safe. We did venture out just out of curiosity along the High Street. Walked into one pub a few feet up and walked straight out again, no thank you. Then across the road to another establishment to see a strange man sat in a room on his own grinning to himself in the window. Again, we walked in and walked out. There were some nice shops in the high street. Overall, we made the right choice and cant thank the staff and regulars for really making a great experience.

I have stayed here 3 times in the last couple of weeks for work puposes and i have to say it is one of the best experiences in a very long time. From entry to exit, i have found the staff, the owners and the regulars all extremely knowledgable and took an instant liking to the style and flair of the establishment. They have some of the best real ales I have ever tasted and cannot fault the blonde Legacy (along with Norfok Gem and Doombar). The selection of drinks, champagnes, wines and spirits is incredible! Steak night is extremely popular on a wednesday and thursday night and a bonus curry night on a friday. The menu is large and i understand they are looking at revamping their dedicated vegan menu. Great to see they are forward thinking with their Christmas menu and christas buffet menu. I hope I'm still here in December! The food has been some of the best I have eaten and put it all together in an incredible setting and that is 'The Cross Keys'. Simply perfect, traditional and a true english treasure. Prices for the meals are more than reasonable, in fact excellent value for money. I felt very safe, the wi-fi was excellent and the use of technology in the background is incredibly subtle - cctv etc, secure card transactions and the like. Overall, a big thank you to the owners David and Rebecca for doing a splendid job not only for raising the standards but giving everyone a chance to contribute to some great bar conversations. I love it here and would not stay anywhere else in Chatteris.

We came to the Cross Keys on Tuesday for dinner and drinks with friends. From start to finish the experience was fantastic. What a lovely find, clean.. quirky, great selection of drinks and the bar manager who could not do enough for us with a great sense of humor too! I wish their were more places with such genuine people, who are genuinely interested in what the customers want! We will be back without a shadow of a doubt, food was fabulous. Even though it was busy the wait was not long, and time to enjoy more drinks!! thank you

What a delightful place. So welcoming and friendly. The owner (I guess he was) was very accommodating and helpful. Even made my son a coffee when he was sitting outside. Room was really nice, floor a bit creaky but it?s an old building so only to be expected. Car park at the back but small so get there early to get a spot but you can park on the road outside. Breakfast was great no complaints. The only down side was that I couldn?t lock my door from the outside. But that will be fixed easily I guess. If you want a nice friendly place to stay this is it.Rooms: Nice clean and tidy. Good selection of drinks and biscuits! Nice big TV with plenty of space. Floor creaky but it?s an old building so only to be expected.Food & drinks: Food is hot and they give good portions.

Stayed here on 4th July, very impressed with the room, No 14. During my stay I had an evening meal, the half pound burger is to die for, and full English the following morning. The proprietors David and Rebecca were great. I will definitely stay again.

My son and I called in for a meal on our way to stay with family in Ely last night. What a lovely place it is - it reminded me of what pubs used to be like when I was younger - friendly and cosy. The bar man and the waitress were both extremely welcoming and helpful. The food was lovely. It was curry night and my son had chicken curry which he said was delicious.I am vegan and there were plenty of options. I had the vegan burger and chip and it was perfectly cooked and lovely and hot.We definitely hope to come again.
