Great service and super cozy atmosphere. The staff really make you feel at home and the beauty of the historical building doesn?t fail to awe you. Definitely staying here again.

Lovely welcoming staff, stayed for one night and the rooms are lovely, it?s a quiet area and their food was great too. Big tv with Netflix and all you can eat breakfast. Close to Cambridge and right next to the train station and there is free

The Red Lion is a quaint place located near a train station. The building itself is pretty and gives the impression of a rustic coach house. Primarily there are no staff at the red lion, as far as lodgings are concered, and you check in and deal with the reception staff at the holiday inn express across the road, bookings are handled by the holiday inn also. On fist sight the rooms at the red lion appear large spacious and clean, but on closer inspection, such as by say, moving a curtain youll be met with a legion of dead insects dirt and grime, this is off putting to say the least and tlputs you on allert for further filths such as the mold in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, but there were 2 singles held together by a bed sheet, so it was not ideal. Then there is the matter of the temperature, it was cold out when i stayed and the drafts from the windows added to the sever lack of heating, even including the aditional oil heater and fan combo, meant the room was freezing and you were forced to sit under ckver whilst in the room most of the time. On a plus side, the shower had exceptional pressure and was plenty hot enough. It was just a shame it flooded the tray. The pub situated below serves half decent food and drink, but the prices are extortionate for quality and the service is far from ehat you would expect, at £6.60 for a pint of Guinness I expect it to come in an actual Guinness glass, for example. It's also preferable to have time to finish a starter prior to a main course coming out . One of my larger disappointments was they apply a service charge directly to your bill and do not inform you of this, having had to head to the bar to settle up they simply told me the amount without showing me a copy of the bill or explaining the service charge. I found this to be a horrible dishonest practice.Rooms: Appear good but bream the thin veneer and you'll find filth and insects and the cold waiting

I've eated here off and on for over 10 years and while it's now a good thing that they are dog friendly, other aspects of the experience need improvement.I've reserved a table to dine with guests at the red lion twice in the past 8 weeks. Both times our reservation was completely ignored. The first time we were squeezed into a draughty corner with a hastily assembled extra table, the second time we were simply handed menus and told to sit where we liked - fortunately there was just one suitable table available. The food is decent enough, but the service right now is poor. The only real ale on tap during my last visit was an awful raspberry milk flavour stout.

Cozy rooms in a historical building, for honest price. Really nice!

We chose this pub as the location was convenient. However the food was disappointing. We felt that it was overpriced. It could be so much better if quality ingredients were used.... Cheap white sliced bread when decent bread would cost very little more.

Stopped off for lunch on 19th October we had a lovely well cooked lunch and so helpful staff. Very engaging and enjoyable.BUT DO NOT PARK OUTSIDE AS YOU WILL GET A TICKET FROM HOLIDAY INN £100 Ouch Very expensive lunch.

I?ve stayed here many times in the past and enjoyed it. But now the holiday Inn next door have taken control of the pub. Opening hours are now at weekdays only. Standards have dropped and there is definitely no Love in the kitchen anymore, if you can send out a Pie that is described as a crusty pastry in menu but leaves kitchen overcooked and rubbery then you?ve no love. We all know what a pie is like when you over cook it in the microwave. So now you check into holiday inn and wonder back over to the red lion to your room. It?s now all overpriced so if you can then look elsewhere. Note if you do come, breakfast at red lion is not automatically included and car parking charges apply.Food & drinks: Expensive.

Stayed here for one Saturday night with my partner.Slightly odd setup, the Red Lion and TravelLodge more or less face each other across a car park which guests can use at £7.50/night in advance. There is a train station at the location too, so it makes sense to charge for parking separately, but it seems a little expensive. For some reason, presumably because TravelLodge have bought the nearby pub, you check in and pay for parking at TravelLodge before going over to the actual hotel.Room was pleasant, a bit hot when we arrived at about 4:30pm. The windows are single-glazed wooden framed multi panel ones, possibly because of the buildings listed status. They don't open very far and allow noise from the carpark and train station to come through even when closed.Possibly for the same reason (ie restrictions on changing the electrics), there is a large light in the middle of the room which is bright enough to operate by and a light in the bathroom. Each has a switch by the door with nothing by the bed to switch the main light off, meaning you stumble to bed in complete darkness. I felt that preferably to having an airliner land through our room having mistaken our bedroom window for one of Stansted Airports landing lights.I really wouldn't take the restaurant times on the website too seriously. I went down to the bar at 7:30pm to be told by the barman that both the bar and the kitchen were closing soon because nobody was coming in. Tbf I have no idea how many guests were staying, but I can only advise that you eat before you arrive.I dislike being so negative, and as I stated above, I think some of the problems may be caused by the buildings listed status. But this seems to combine the problems of being in the middle of nowhere with being noisy, and closing the bar and kitchen before most people even think of going there is just ridiculous.

I felt welcome from the moment I arrived. I was worn out from a long train trip but the girls at reception made me feel right at home. There was no problem dropping my luggage in early before I went to wonderful Duxford museum. On my return I recieved my key (a real one!) and made my way up to my very quaint old world room with rustic high ceiling and 15th century style interior. It was absolutely charming. I was hoping to meet a ghost or two but was disappointed. There is a lovely old chapel next door for photo ops. Despite the medieval atmosphere, the shower was hot, the coffee was well stocked and the free wifi was strong. I got a very good night's sleep and was thrilled at the view of the morning sun to start a very full day of travelling. Check out was a breeze and I was sorry to go.Rooms: Like living in the Middle Ages again...in a good way...with all the mod cons?Nearby activities: Ten minute bus to IWM Duxford and right next to Whittlesford Parkway Station.

Food was very slow to arrive (1 hour wait), however the napkins are really nice quality and the staff were lovely and transparent about the delay after being asked

We got married at the Red Lion in July 2023 and we cannot fault the staff, food or venue at all. The staff went above and beyond throughout the day to make sure everything went as we had hoped. The only downside is that they have no fruit shoots or sugar free squash for children which meant our nephew with type one diabetes could not drink anything from the Red Lion.Definitely recommend the venue, very reasonably priced. Also a special mention to Alice who was extremely helpful with the planning of the wedding and during the wedding.

We stayed at the Red Lion as we were visiting Audley End for a concert, When we arrived the car park was nearly full, and we had to pay an extra £7.50 to park overnight We got the key to our room by going over to the Holiday inn next door The room ( no 15) at first glance seemed ok, although the overly large TV restricted movement around the end of the bed and over hung the light switches to the bathroom The room was showing the signs of age, cobwebs and accumulated dirt in corners especially in the bathroom, sealant around bath and sink peeling away and grubby, there was no shower curtain and the shower itself was a hand held one near the taps and when you stood in the bath and used it, it was powerful like I fireman?s hose so water squirted EVERYWHERE, soaking the entire bathroom ( plus the extractor fan was broken and there was no window It felt more like a wet room Not good for a 16th century building to have that much moisture The Red lion seemed to lack staff, the dinning room was dark, and the young lad behind the bar didn?t even know how to turn the lights on We decided to eat elsewhere Breakfast was included in our stay, but was served in the Holiday Inn next door, Everyone in both hotels had to use this space and it was extremely busy People were queuing for ages to get a seat, we saw someone sitting at reception with a full English breakfast on their lap? On the plus side, I will say our bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean The location was great for what we needed. The staff were doing their best but some things really need to be addressed And we got the impression that if you wanted to discuss anything about your room the next morning, there was no one on reception deliberately, their reluctance to engage with you hi lighted ongoing problems.
