I?ve been going to the pinty since it opened. Beers and gins continue to be good, bar service a bit less friendly, but hey. However, what?s happened to the bar and garden food menu lately?not great. However, my biggest bug bear: the Scotch eggs used to perfectly slightly runny?now the yolks are gel-based (like premium supermarket ones) and the meat streams water then cut into. Why mess with your signature bar dish?

This pub is a cool place with excellent craft beer and interesting food. The location is very central, right behind the guildhall.
One really great item on the food menu is the scotch egg, they are really nicely done with the egg remaining runny inside.
Last time I was in the beer was super well curated with really fine local brewers showcased. It has always been good, but I think it was especially good recently.
They also have a selection of fancy gins there.
The toilets are architecturally interesting.

A warren of rooms makes up the pint shop as you meander past the bar area to the dining room.
It was a gorgeous summer day outside, which made the inside hot and a little humid from the flavors wafting in from the kitchen.
They have an eclectic array of beers on the wall and an extremely interesting list of gins on the menu. I gave them a 4 for the drink list and a 3 on the food.
The menu is from all over. Grilled meats. Korean wings. Indian pie... it truly is a cornucopia of whatever the chef felt like cooking....
The scotch egg was excellent, not so much the Korean wings. My dining partner had the salmon, which was average, and I had the lamb leg, which was tough.
Go for the drinks, but eat someplace else.

Beer selection - great. I wouldn't go here for food again though.

Pop in occasionally to enjoy a craft beer but the staff are always so miserable without any warm welcome. Such a shame.

We?ve read the reviews about the service and decided to try it given that we were in no hurry and heard that the food is good.
True to my expectation, the food was good. But the service was simply horrible. As we turned up early and there was no one to show us to the table, we decided to go to the bar to get some drinks. The young lady who was at the bar did not seem too cheery. She offered to open a tab and showed us to our table, which made us feel better. However, I was then presented with a machine to pay (having told she was going to open a tab). I paid anyway, thinking they?ll probably adjust it on the bill at the end. And she proceeded to serve others, as though the conversation we had earlier didn?t happen!
We waited for awhile, then proceeded to the dining room and asked another member of staff if we could be shown to our table early, and the staff said she was on her lunch break and someone else will be with us shortly. The same staff at the bar then came up and showed us to a table for 6 (there were 2 of us and there were lots of other smaller tables. We were confused, but proceeded to sit down anyway), and strewed menus across half of the table.
Quite some time later, a gentleman came to take our orders, which we swiftly placed. The food arrived in reasonable time and was good.
When the bill came, we noticed that the drinks were still charged to the bill. We disputed this and were very fortunate we used a bank with an app on our phone(please be sure to use this at this bar), as the young lady at the bar rejected that we had already paid for our drinks. After adjusting the bill, we were presented the machine with 12% service charge added to the bill. It was forced gratuity as after the salty service and the dispute, my mind boggles at the audacity of adding ANY gratuitous service charge at all!
I picked The Pint Shop as I prefer to support independent pubs whenever possible. But you?d be better off going to Brown?s. You?d be treated better for your custom.

We asked for burgers, our burgers came burnt, and the chips were smelling fish, probably cooked in the same oil with fish. We asked for a refund and they accepted it.
Beers are good but definitely don?t consider eating here.

This doesn't look much from the outside but it's an absolute gem... incredibly excellent food, we had a private room upstairs for a friend's birthday and the young lady who served us was superb. Highly recommend the Indian chicken pie.

Sadly only me in the bar. Wanted a pint of bitter but it ran out so had to settle for a rather nice stout. I didn't eat there.

The Sunday Roast I had was smaller than expected. It was a bit on the salty side, and I didn?t particularly enjoy the sauce. Others at the table had the halloumi fries and said they tasted quite good.
Our waiter was very friendly, but we had to wait quite a while for our food, especially the desserts, which we ordered after the mains.
The toilet is located on the top floor, which could be an accessibility issue for some visitors.

Nice food and lovely staff in a great location. Nice and quiet upstairs but lively bar downstairs, so something for everyone. Big portions too!

I've been here twice over the space of two years and compared to my experiences in other restaurants in Cambridge I would say this is average for its price point.

Worst Sunday Roast Ever!!!!!
Worst Sunday roast I've ever had. I don't normally put reviews, but honesty, this place doesn't deserve one start. My boyfriend and I ordered the Sunday roast (pork belly and beef). Both our plates were drowned in a greasy, overly salted gravy. Burnt potatoes and overcooked pork belly.
The service was not better than the food. Having the waitress leaving the card reader machine to insert our cards on the table and telling us to do it ourselves. I have never seen this before!!
I'm not sure whether we look to touristy for the place or if the service is always like this.
I have ended up with food poison in the station on our way back to London. I'm glad there were open public toilets opened
Make yourself a favour and avoid this place.
