I booked this hotel primarily because of it's so close to the train station but I was delighted by the quality of whole package. The room was clean, spacious and welcoming, the food at the bar in the evening and breakfast in the morning were superb and the staff were always friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Anna, her friendly professionalism is a credit to her employer - somebody give that lady a pay rise ?

Took my friend here for her 60th birthday treat. We had the higher priced afternoon tea with a glass of bubbles. Loved the tea box filled and left for the duration of our visit.Staff were polite, not overly in your face (impressive considering we were the only ones in the restaurant on Wednesday) and always on hand when we needed more hot water etc.I was impressed that the waitress took me to the toilet rather than give a load of convoluted instructions. Toilet was clean with loo roll and working locks. (Unheard of to generally get all 3 together in reading!)I have an allergy and was impressed at the level of care taken to avoid any mishaps.Food was tasty, good value and excellent quality. We will definitely be back.Walkability: 2 minutes from reading train station and close to local bus routesFood & drinks: Please see review and photos

Close to the Reading Station, the hotel has a fun eccentric vibe to it. The room was a little dark for my liking but well maintained. I enjoyed the happy hour and food in the bar. Great cocktails!Food & drinks: I took advantage of cocktails during happy hour - very tasty. GREAT SERVICE!

Honest hotel review: Booked a junior suite for the night as a birthday treat. First impressions are it's a beautiful big building, in a great location next to the station (parking for 24 hours £25) in the long stay carpark. Easy check in and complimentary glass of prosecco each at the bar. We stayed in the flying Scotsman on the top floor and we were very impressed by the size of the room. Excellent space for a small living area, king bed, double sink bathroom and a wardrobe and desk. Ideal for a night in which is what we wanted. The bed was comfortable, lots of little extras like a coffee machine, chocolates, toiletries and a mini bar if you wanted any more drinks or snacks. I believe the hotel also did room service. The bed was comfortable, however the room was a little stuffy and despite having the AC on at 16 the room still remained warm, a little too warm to sleep. I opened the windows and unfortunately because of the location the room was filled with the smell of greasy take aways from the kitchen which must have been situated below. The lighting didn't work on one side of the suite, but it wasn't any trouble as there are plenty of lamps on the other side and main light. Big enough telly with plenty of freeview channels. Breakfast included which was great hot drinks machine, Continental breakfast and a choice from the hot breakfast menu. All in all a very pleasant stay at The Malmaison.

Swept up by a sudden urge for adventure, we found ourselves booking a last-minute escape to Malmaison in Reading, and it was nothing short of a serendipitous delight! The hotel, chosen with little deliberation, surprised us with its comfort and subtle elegance. Among the room?s features, a luxurious bath that quickly became the sanctuary of our relaxation, providing a gentle pause in our impromptu journey. This thoroughly elevated our impromptu trip to a luxurious sojourn. We did encounter a small oversight in the midst of our bliss ? the absence of toothpaste, a detail that, albeit minor, tethered us back to the mundane. We hope the hotel takes note of such nuances, as they contribute significantly to the overall guest experience.Compelled by the desire to explore, we also sauntered into the vibrant nearby Wetherspoons where the local energy was palpable. Immersing ourselves in the social buzz was the perfect way to connect with the vibrant heart of Reading?s nightlife.Despite the brevity of our stay and the slight inconvenience, our visit to Reading was enriched by both the comforts of our accommodation and the lively charm of the town. It served as a poignant testament to the beauty of spontaneity, crafting indelible memories from the fabric of the unforeseen.Would visit again!

We throughly recommend Malmaison for a comfortable stay and/or meal out :) Yvette was accommodating to our needs in the restaurant and the food was incredible. We also booked a room for the night and had no regrets - it was spacious and very comfortable.

I spent a weekend at this hotel, the room was lovely and the bed was v comfortable. The bathroom has a bath and a separate shower cubicle. The water had great pressure and was v hot. The shower stall could do with deep limescale cleaning, though. My first breakfast - egg benedict - was really lovely. I ordered a full English breakfast on the following day. Unfortunately, because of my lactose intolerance, I could not have sausage with my breakfast. I asked for a bit of smoked salmon to replace the sausage. The chef refused my request. He doesn't do any swaps. He asked me to sign a disclaimer before my reduced English breakfast was served. The wait staff and reception staff were friendly n polite. The location of the hotel is brilliant, a literal stone throw from the train station. I would stay here again.

My work booked this place for 3 day training session. The room was OK but on the first day we didn't have milk or sugar for tea and coffee, you would have thought that some care would have been made for good first impressions.More disappointingly on day 1 I asked for the music to be turned down, the speaker is right outside the door to the room we were in, the person I asked turned it right down, no problems (great!)Day 2, again the music was disturbing us. I asked a lady at reception to please turn down the music, she was rude and reluctant to do so because its "company policy" that the music has to be the same in every room including the volume. As a favour to me she was willing to turn it down "a little bit"Hospitality is exactly that... try to make your guest happy if their requests are reasonable and especially easy to fulfil.Sadly she let this her employer down and as a result I will be recommending to my employer that we cancel all future bookings with them and do not use them again. What a shame.

It is rare I post a 5 star review, but the Malmaison in Reading deserves this one. The room (standard) was spotlessly clean with comfortable bed (most important part) and feather pillows. The bathroom was large with an amazing shower (and a bath). There were also usb charging sockets everywhere. If I could nit pick it would be the blinds used did not quite block out all the light but very minor. The breakfast (continental in my case but can upgrade to cooked for a few pounds more), was excellent as well. Not just a few pastries and some cereals but they had things like overnight oats and porridge (freshly made) as well.Definitely stay here again. Next time I might try the restaurant for evening meal (arrived in too late this time due to the train strikes)

If the temperature is cold outside (-2?c) stay away from this hotel as the heating doesn?t work properly. In the end I ended up leaving the hotel earlier than anticipated. I was soo cold during my stay! (Why else would you put in adequate oil heater in the room? They know there are problems)At check out i explained the problem, I asked for a refund, the staff member was unable to help and simply said ?I?ll pass on be feed back about the cold room, we are aware of the problems???.why did they not tell me this before I arrived or on checkin. I really don?t think she took any notes or gave a F&@)!?..they?ve taken your money. What do they care?Oh and if you forget your phone charger, they won?t help - you?re on your own. The pillows are also worn with no firmness.Poor poor service from a Hotel brand that I have used on many many occasions?..this was a luxury/boutique hotels at its worst.
