I am currently a worker here and honestly its the worst place ever.Housing refugees never gets cleaned properly they underpay staff especially the night staff.management is poor. hotel smells and looks just a bomb has hit it. Home office/best western should close it down. The staff are treated like rubbish all the time

The worst hotel ever. Totally depressing. Filthy and in serious need of refurbishment

I've just spent half an hour trying to book a room here. Central reservations just cut me off after a few minutes so I tried the meetings section. That number didn't respond to my preferred options but eventually started ringing. I thought I'd use that route and maybe they could put me through to reservations. After another couple of minutes a recorded message told me all the staff were busy and said to call back later. Eventually I googled the hotel and found their direct number. I rang it and nobody ever answered the phone. I find it difficult to believe that anybody ever stays here unless they physically go there and maybe, even then, the door might be locked.

All I can say is don?t stay here. The whole place smells of stale cigarette smoke. Our room was so stuffy and we couldn?t open the window as it was ground floor leading on to the car park. Our neighbours were noisy (not the fault of the hotel). Unfortunately our room was next to the hotel?s water system and this was also very noisy. Eventually around 1am we asked the Night Porter to move us to a different room (he was polite and helpful) which he did. In this room, the bins weren?t emptied and the toilet didn?t work. This is a nightmare of a hotel. Like I said, just do not stay here!

Hotel just cancelled our stay with 48hrs notice. Took the full payment but then cancelled saying the hotel was now shut until 31st October 2021 and cannot disclose the reasons due to confidentiality. Government got anything to do with this I wonder?? Disgusting!!

Went to 70s/80s night at Calcot on Saturday; worst decision ever. Food was diabolical. Not enough vegan starters & even though we ordered weeks in advance, rude waiting staff argued that hadn't ordered despite the fact we had proof on our phone. We were served something else that looked as though it came out of a bin. The vegan dinner was stodge & the meat dinner left a lot to be desired. Everyone was crammed in with very little room to move. The hotel obviously want to get as much money for as little pay-out as they can, but we work hard to earn our money to come & it was awful. We couldn't even park in the car-park - too small. My brother, who is disabled, had to double park & had a job to enter the building on his double crutches. We won't come back.

The hotel was very clean throughout, the service was good and the team were definitely 5 star, the only reason I gave it 4 stars was the poor quality floor in my room and the fact that at peak times there was literally no hot water as demand had exceeded supply - have a look at the photos. These were minor things though. I would definitely stay again, the breakfast was well prepared and plentiful and it was the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept in. Overall, very nice, many thanks!!

I've stayed in February & now this month I'm here again & it's not a fluke because the staff give you the best treatment and go above & beyond to keep u comfortable. Special thanks to Rose, Tsvetomir, Sharriff on reception who catered to my every wish. The virus crisis has had me staying day to day because of no work so I've been booked per night so it shows that whether you are a 1 night guests or 3 night guests they still make you feel special. Breakfast service and food on the whole earned every star given + house keeping got the bed & rooms so comfortable u need a wake up call or you'll sleep through breakfast as it actually happened to me. This is the best place to stay if in Reading believe me!!!

Yes 2 reviews in one! I was invited a few weeks back for a friends party to the 70s-80s night. We had a wonderful time, staff were fantastic, We arrived around 7pm the bar in the ballroom area was busy but we got drinks not too much wait. It was nice to go to somewhere with such a friendly atmosphere. Around 8 we were called to take our seats we had a set 3 course meal that we all enjoyed. I would say in 2020 I think maybe a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 sweets would be better. The DJ was playing 70s, 80s background music that I appreciated being a music buff! We finished around 8.30 some tables were still being served so the lights didnt go down and the disco didnt start until around 9.45. It was lovely to dance and enjoy the great music. The DJ kept the dance floor full until midnight. I knew I had a great night as my legs ached so much the next day! I understand the hotel has regular themed evenings we will be booking again! Ideal for couples, groups, celebrations. for much the same price as going for a curry I think it was £30 pp. Lets be honest Where else can you go locally for such an evening?

Find somewhere else to stay. Food and service in restaurant poor, did not sleep well so left early and did not have the breakfast I had paid for. I would not recommend this hotel.

I booked this hotel for a family reunion to avoid my daughter having to drive from Devon and back in a day. A big mistake. We had stayed before, but here was no comparison Positives: The girl on reception was very helpful. Quickly realised that I did not actually want 3 rooms as indicated on the system. She reorganised the booking so that my daughter and i had rooms near to each other. This eventually turned out to be a mistake as at my age I found if difficult to climb the steep stairs with a case. Negatives: 1. Having told the waitress that we were a party of 6 with one "gluten free" member she just ignored that bit of information. 2. There were not enough menu and specials cards for the party. 3. Service was extremely slow in spite of there being only 13 in the restaurant 4. I and one other ordered the gammon and chips. Mistake. The gammon was under cooked and the chips were so overcooked that it was impossible to get a fork into them. Fingers job only. 5. We were offered a free dessert for 2 of us to compensate for this, but only 1 menu sheet between the 6 of us. 6. only 4 of us felt like a dessert, but found after 20 minutes of placing the order found that there was no "brownie" available. 7. The Eton mess really was a mess. 8. The crumble was bland and tasteless and after only a couple of spoonfulls was put to one side. I paid the food bill and said how unhappy I was with the meal. Shortly after this the Restaurant Manger appeared and gave me a 25% refund. Negative 9. There is a warning sign on the bedroom door about the step inside the door. But not about the step into the bathroom. having fallen last time we were here I was ready for the step. but not for the fact that there was no bedside lamp. 10. This latter meant that once the room light was turned off I was in the dark to get back to bed. (Health and Safety issue?) 11. I thought to leave on the bathroom light so that I could see when I needed to use the bathroom, but that meant I could not sleep. After a restless night I decide to leave the hotel at 06.45 and forget about breakfast. I woke my daughter to bring me home.
