Went got my wife?s birthday today, sad to say worst service, nonchalant staff, not giving a crap attitude. Small menu or non existent options. Food returned as inedible and the waitress attitude when I said the food was shocking was to laugh like a banshee. When they finally got it that I wasn?t happy they offered me anything to appease me after my wife had finished her meal, so I really want to delay her and eat alone. Really intelligent?. Worst service worst food ever and have eaten in lots of places uk and overseas. Thanks for ruining my wife?s birthday real quality.

Went for Sunday Lunch having not been for many years, the menu had not changed in all this time so we thought we would be in for a treat. Sadly this was not the case. The soup was watery (we have made this soup using Heston's recipe many times this was not it!) and the Scotch Egg was tasteless and made with it seemed cheap sausage meat. The prawn cocktail tasted of alcohol and the Prawns were sliced in half, The Mushroom Parfait was freezing and tasted like it was straight out of the blast chiller. Fish cakes were pretty dull The Roasts - Pork average and mass-produced crackling as you see in bags behind pub bars did not taste authentic, a thimble of apple sauce, powdery parsnips, and one carrot each. Waterery (seems to be a theme) gravy. The beef was pretty chewy Only one dessert option was disappointing as was the pudding itself. 1 Tea, 1 Coffee, 2 soft drinks NO alcohol = £360 Michelin maybe but that did NOT feel worth the price Was a nice atmosphere but won't be returning

A warm welcome. A truly scrumptious Scotch egg and the best fish & chips ever. The fish was plentiful, moist and flaky. The batter was light & crispy and not at all greasy. Chips were superb - crispy with fluffy potato, well-seasoned and delicious. Loved the mushy peas, curry sauce & chip dip. Will be back!

We visited for lunch on an experience voucher but were welcomed and made to feel special. The ?experience? that we had was exceptional. Every member of staff were so attentive and happy! Everyone seemed genuinely cheerful, happy and pleased to make sure that we had a great time. As for the food, exceptional. Every dish was immaculate and tasted beautiful. The pea and ham hock soup was Devine. The Cornish cod with curry butter sauce just melted. I could go on! Thanks to everyone for making our lunch a great memory. Keep smiling and keep being happy. It makes a huge difference to us

We?d been about 10 years ago and remember being very impressed, but not this time. The food is OK, nothing spectacular but it is nowhere near Michelin star level service. We were brought drinks, food and cutlery (twice) for other tables. Service did not feel special. I am more than happy to pour my own wine and water, but don?t normally need to. No amuse bouche or pre-dessert. Compared to other 1 star restaurants we have eaten in recently (Frog, Bohemia, The Ninth, Trinity) this was on a completely different, much lower, level. We could have had similar food and wine, with better service and at half the price in our local gastropub. Very disappointed.

What a brilliant evening. Firstly the team working there were- to a person- outstanding. They were helpful, knowledgeable and paced the service delivery wonderfully. They weren?t fawning but showed their personalities and took time to talk and guide us in our choices. A superb team who are clearly happy and proud to work there. The ambiance was superb; we had cocktails upstairs and it was full of character; comfy, cosy and quirky and the team kept checking we had everything we needed. When we were sat at our table - the tables weren?t crammed in - we had privacy yet within an atmosphere. The cocktails and wine were sublime- we got the last bottle of an insanely smooth Barolo. The food was ridiculously good- and we are stupidly fussy eaters with more things we dislike than like. We shared four snack starters and- for me- the beetroot quavers were just the star of the show. How insanely good were they? Of course the quails egg, sausage roll and ham hock croquettes were fabulous too. The mains were even better; Heston?s special fish and chips and ribeye steak- just perfection. The chippy dip was something else entirely! Desserts were equally amazing - who knew chocolate wine slush was a thing? It is and try it! Just an absolutely amazing experience! Thank you

I'm a Brit living in the US, and wanted to give my American wife a taste of a 'proper' English pub Sunday lunch while were over visiting family. I'd seen the Hinds Head recommended and thought if we were going to go anywhere, then this would be a great example. We were both very, very impressed. From the scotch egg and soup starters, through the main course of beef for her and pork for me (including the best roast spuds I've ever had!) and ending with a gorgeous Eton Mess this was worth the trip. I've been telling my UK based friends that they really need to visit - even if you have a drive round the M25 to get there!

Fish and chips was never anything special for me? but this lives in a completely separate level. The real stars: the batter and the chips. Superbly done, with a brilliant side of flavours (including the mushy peas!). If there is only one thing missing here, it is the tartare sauce. Still, wonderful food, amazing and friendly staff, and the best of an ?old? british pub interior design. Highly recommended!

Decent price and so much better than hand and flowers/Kerridge. Staff not slick nor finessed and definitely not at all Michelin, but not rude. Interesting that water served in a carafe is £4 a time. Nothing remarkable about the food and the desserts definitely not to standard that any restaurant with a Michelin should have.

Wonderful meal, and service, from start to finish. As two of our party had food allergies, the staff were particularly attentive to this and came up with some great options for us. The venison carpaccio starter was a real delight, and my husband just loved the oxtail and kidney pudding. Puddings were a real treat. My daughter's chocolate wine slush looked just like a cup of coffee and a biscuit, but tasted totally different. My raspberry tart looked like something other than what it tasted, which was great, and a lovely surprise. We could not fault the restaurant - pity we did not live closer to it!

We came here for our 1 year anniversary meal, and it did not disappoint, I had the ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly and served with triple cooked chips, and my significant other had the fish and chips which she absolutely loved including the chippy dip which was just a touch of nostalgia of eating soggy vinegary chips from an actual chippy. To finish off the team served us this nice little board to mark out our anniversary. Loved it and already planning on returning!
