As a Frenchman, I started visiting England with a bit of worries about English food. I owe to honesty to testify I've had very good experiences in the UK, especially tonight at The Five Bells! The food was excellent, the house beautiful, the staff very friendly.

Lovely pub with good beer and nice food. Large car park and beer garden at rear which is great for small kids and dogs. Has a low ceiling with original beams and timber frame making a warm traditional atmosphere.

Not overly impressed. This was my first and probably my last visit to this establishment. I asked to swap chips for a salad with my main and was told I couldn't swap, only pay for a separate salad and receive no price reduction for not having any chips, which were not even served up.
When eating our meal we were plagued with four or flies that kept settling on our food. There was no apparent fly catching system in place so made eating the food very unpleasant.
Finally, how I didn't slip over in the ladies toilets was a miracle. the floor was extremely wet and when I reported it, was told, yes we know we've had a flood in there. There had been no attempt to dry it or put a notice to be careful out.
Overall, not a very happy customer.

Visited for a Sunday roast, left full of good food,but also mildly frustrated. The staff were pretty in-attentive after initially ordering we were never asked if we wanted more drinks, no offer of water for the table was made either. After the main course it was almost 30 minutes before we got someone's attention to clear the plates and bring a dessert menu, and another 10 before they returned to take the order. The food was pretty damn good, the starter and dessert outstanding, the roast was on the better side of gastropub, but was let down by very fatty lamb, and roast potatoes that were neither crispy or fluffy. I'm not sure what was supposed to be going on with the parsnip crisps(?), but they had a texture like vegetable peelings, and a taste not disammilar. Starter was excellent, and the chocolate orange tart was rich, orangey and dense.

A really nice pub/restaurant 'hidden' away from the main roads around Leighton Buzzard/Hockliffe and well worth the detour if in the area. As a Fullers pub, the ales are amazing, lager selection is good as well. I Hadn't been to The Five Bells in over 10 years as I've moved away from the area. So I took the opportunity to visit as my son is now close by, so glad I did. The food was outstanding, seriously good, well presented and cooked to perfection. Had a quick chat with the 'new' landlady, she was lovely and very welcoming. We will definitely be back when I'm up country again as there was so much on the menu I wanted to try. I can highly recommend the Bubble & Squeak starter and the Fish Cakes with Poached Egg as a main, the sauce was amazing! Massive garden with plenty of outdoor tables, plus plenty of parking.

I attended a funeral today at 5 bells. I asked if any plant based milk.i was told no. I asked if any of the food was vegan and lady said she would find out....she didn't return! I understand it wasn't maybe stated that a vegan was coming but surely it's standard to offer one option! meat and dairy eaters can eat vegan food where as the other way round isn't an option. I would have liked to have been shown the decency to have been told no options for me.

My husband and I came for an impromptu meal today and it was incredible. Service was brilliant, food incredible and atmosphere delightful!
